DD started eating Gerber 1st foods at 4 months - the suggestion of our pedi. She's now 6 months and I'm curious as to when I should start giving her the "2nd" foods. I'm not too sure of the difference other than the size and mixtures. Has anyone moved to the 2nds? TIA!
My pedi said level 2 after she shows she's good at level 1and can chew better. I'm sticking to Purées for now and she has been doing great at level 1 for the past month but will probably wait another month or two before moving up to level 2. I'm now doing level 1 twice a day.

The second foods are a little bit thicker also. They have more complex flavors and combination flavors. Gerber recommends that the second stage foods can be used when your child meets the developmental milestones associated with a sitter. https://www.gerber.com/sitter
Thanks for that link. I'm wondering, too, what kind of schedule kids have once they're doing three a day. Right now DD has a bottle at 6, baby food at 9:30, a bottle at 11:30 and 3:30, baby food at 5:30 then a bottle before bed (7:30ish). On average I'd say she drinks 25 ounces. I know it can vary from child to child but overall does that sound reasonable? Once we try three a day do you think a bottle would be taken out? Or maybe she'd just drink less overall?
I think once you get to 3x a day, you can plan to drop a bottle or just offer less at each bottle. Gerber also has a menu planner / feeding guide you can take a peek at.
It says its customized, but I did it for us and it had DD drinking waaaay more formula than she could ever intake in a day. She's at about 23-27 oz/ day and we don't have a set amount at each feed except for the morning and bedtime bottle. During the day, she gets a bottle whenever she wants it and sometimes drinks only 1-3 oz at a time and can have up to 6 or 7 bottles a day. I always offer a bottle after solids and only just started offering a sippy cup of water during feeds.
We started stage 2 foods three days ago. DS sits and crawls so I figured why not. He ate the whole container and then wanted formula. We did pear pineapple and he liked it.
We started stage two at 6 months with the ok from pedi. She said the main thing to watch for is combinations that LO hasn't tried before. I don't feed anything with more than 1 new ingredient to watch for reactions.
My dd didnts start solid foods until 6 months,so a little over a week ago and she has been eating rice cereal and green beans so far. My ped said since she is 6 months stage 2 foods are fine. Stage are thinner than stage 2. Check with your ped but if stage 1 is going well and you are concerned about stage 2 maybe add a little rice cereal to the food to thicken it and see if your lo likes it.
