Re: Pregnancy Check In (July 21)
Goood Morning!
I am happy to report that I haven't puked for almost a week! It is kind of a big deal. I think we have discovered that triggers may be: sugary drinks, candy, overeating and greasy foods... Yeah, so all the things my body is craving, are off limits. Boo... AND I also start to feel sick if I haven't gotten enough protein... which I never have any taste for. It has been a real mind v body process... But so far, I my body seems to be winning. Which is great!
I am feeling Squints more and more. We went to see Planet of the Apes this weekend, and I got kicked so hard once that I gasped. It didn't hurt, I was just surprised by it! It was of course, also during a very intense scene and I was on the edge anyways
QOTD: What a great question!
We have two baby puppies.... at least, they are puppies in size (one is now 7 and the other is 10). We are a blended family, meaning A had Baxter prior to our relationship, and I had Burke. They are both Jack Russell mixes, and both are loaded with lots of neurosis and fun issues! I will give A a chance to talk about Baxter, but Burke has an OCD, which makes him chase shadows.... which people think is hilarious, until you see how stressed out he gets... and people can just be mean. I rescued him from the Humane Society... I used to go to give rescue dogs scratches in Grad school when I would get really stressed out about a paper, or an exam. When I met Burke, its like I knew he was mine
We lived together just the two of us for a while... and he took good care of me through some really bad times. So we are kind of bonded... He is also an excellent spooner.
One of the most serious arguments about children A and I have ever had was about the theoretical possibility of our child wanting a cat. Cats have always been a relationship deal breaker for me... meaning, I could not date someone who needed to have a cat in their life... I respect people who love cats, I just don't. Luckily A has no strong proclivity to felines, but is worried that we will have a kid who will want a cat. I just don't know if I would be ready for all that. ***AGAIN, I must stress, I totally understand people who do love cats, I am just not one of them... I think it has to do with my need for overt, contact affection, and a cat's inability to deliver that!
Picture of our special boys coming soon (writing from computer, not phone!)

I'm 8 weeks today. Not much to report feel off and on nauseous and tired all the time. Just waiting nervously for my first OB appointment which is now on August 7th which seems so far away. I keep reminding myself if something goes wrong this early on there isn't much the doctors could do so getting in to see an OB earlier wouldn't make any real difference.
QOTW: I have four fur babies. Xander is almost 5 yrs old now and is a pain in the a** Sharpie. He hates love or affection and will only sometimes tolerate pats. He is very selective about who he likes and it take a long time to earn his trust. Oliver is turn 3 and October and is a total love bug. He has a fun personality and thinks he is a tiny lap dog despite his 65 lbs (Once he gains all his weight back from his 2 week adventure). He always wants to be with people and will follow you around the house room to room sometimes tripping you. Then we have two cats Jasmine and Nala who both just turned one. Nala comes when she is called and likes pets and they both are always laying in the strangest ways it makes me laugh. Jasmine is funny she loves constant attention but will be asking for love then out of no where bite you gently.

EDD 8/20/14 with a baby girl!
Little S was born on 8/21/14 - 8lb, 14 oz and 20 inches long.
We live in Seattle and used SRM for our donor egg IVF cycle
Fur babies: 2 cats and 2 dogs. Cats are Mystique 8 (dark gray) and Mia 7 (pastel calico). Mia (Sarah got her when we were dating) is sweet and holds up a paw and reaches toward you when you say her name. She also licks the top of one of our dogs heads.
Mystique (my cat from college that Sarah rescued and gave to me...prego!!!) ms beiotch! She is declawed and I swear does more damage than Mia who has claws. She punches my moms dog (who she used to live with) and doesn't care for dogs or Mia much but LOVES humans! She head butts and rubs her face all over you. Insist on sleeping ON you. Will jump on my back if I'm laying down on stomach! Goof!
Dogs... Kaydie (9 year old beagle/Pomeranian mix) who has hip problems + new and exciting doggie incontanence (takes a pill every other day for it) and is a stubborn ass/lick-a-holic spazo dog but love her (Sarah's dog from previous marriage).
Roxie Grace...my BABY!!! (Sarah calls her my wife). She is a Puggle and is 6 years old. My mom has her sister ( snuggles) who comes to visit sometimes. Roxie is super smart. She dances pretty, rolls over, sits, stays, shakes, gives high 5, will "put um up", lays down, speaks, sings (howls), waves bye-bye and is obsessed with stuffed critters. Carries them everywhere...bunny, squirrel, fox, hedge hog, duck.
QOTW: Tell us about your fur babies! If you don't have any fur babies will you get any for your human babies? PIPs are always welcome! The wife and I work with rescues and our local animal shelter. Not only do we work with them but I seem to be a beacon for ppl dumping animals. We currently have 1 pit (Capone), 2 cats (Atticus and Jax), and 1 snake ICalliope). As most of you know, I had to put down my beautiful boxer boy a few months ago. He was 9 and the first love of my life. I am tearing up as I type this. He was amazing and I am so lucky to have had him help me through some of the toughest times of my life. I had to do for him what he has always done for me, I put him and his happiness over my wants. It hurts everyday, I love him always. My fur-babies that are here are also amazing and have helped me heal day by day!
Married to M and proud mothers to Olivia and Elise (8/19/2014) and to our fur-babies: Capone (pitbull), Jax and Atticus (cats)

I'm 36w today!!! (July 23)
Monday we had our usual doctor appointment and all was looking good! My fluids were still normal (20) and NST was a piece of cake. They aim to get 2 accelerations in the 20 minute session - the nurse said "Oh, you have 4, good job baby!" and we were like "Oh, she usually gets 8 or so ..." and then she busted out 4 more movements before the end. We felt a little bad like we somehow forced her to overachieve! Whoops. But it was kind of funny.
Our meeting with the doctor was good. Turns out we had been scheduled with a doctor we'd never met, and who isn't on call at all during our due time for next week's "big" appointment - labor planning! Fortunately we met with one of our favorites on Monday who was like "oh my, I am going to fix this" and implied the guy we were booked with was not a great choice for us. Yay for her!! So we will go Tuesday next week and do the growth scan (finally!), cervix check, Group B Strep test, and then labor planning based on those things.
I'm still super bummed with the GD that we won't be allowed to go past our due date. I do plan to ask some more questions about that - like "if nothing is indicating a problem, and I come every day for an NST, could we wait?" etc. but I'm not super hopeful. Since the average woman in the US with spontaneous labor give birth around 41w3d, I am trying to be optimistic that Simone will choose her birthdate *before* her due date, but realistically stats are not on my side. I did start labor priming with my acupuncturist last Saturday and am doing herbs and will start eating dates and am considering talking to our doc about things like blue/black cohosh, etc. Especially since we expect she is measuring large, her coming a little early does not worry me.
We met with our doula on Monday night to do our labor planning discussion. It went really well! We really feel we found our right doula. We talked a lot about our preferences, fears, hopes, and mitigation plan for when all those things fall apart. For me, really, the whole goal is three things: Healthy mom, healthy baby, and no emotional trauma for me or J. I just want to feel informed, like I understood my options, and have no regrets. While I have a strong hope/goal for a nice, normal path of a spontaneous labor that lasts an average amount of time that I get through without pain meds......I also realize that may not be how things unfold and I'm A-OK with that! I just want to feel good about the decisions we make that are outside of that ideal. And, honestly, being that she is head-down I'm just so grateful to even have a shot at a vaginal delivery - I go back to that when I feel anxious about things like induction, pitocin, drugs, c-section, etc.
Otherwise, things are changing in there! She really loves my right side and I had her 'mapped' pretty well as confirmed by ultrasound. She is head down, hands/arms are on my lower left, and her butt is over to the right and feet are up under my right ribs, which I think she is aiming to rip in half! My back right ribs are getting kicked out seriously some of the time and I find the only way I am comfortable is to be on hands and knees - which, while working at home is fine. I put my laptop on the ottoman and all is well. But seriously, OUCH. I'm also peeing now every 2 hours at night (like clockwork... 12:30, 2:30, 4:30...) but I'm getting back to sleep easily just about every time, so generally I'm feeling rested. I feel huge and full in there - and cannot imagine if she really does go to full term and gains the "1/3-1/2 lb a week" in the next 4 weeks! How can she get bigger!??
Eating is fine, my blood sugars have come way more into control (normal around now as the placenta starts to slow down) which has been a relief to feel like I'm able to keep things in really good control for her. I'm still getting around the lake (3 miles) a couple times a week plus yoga a couple times. Not knocking it out of the park, but pleased that I'm still staying active even if I'm moving a little slower.
I guess the last thing is that I am LOVING all her movement. She usually wakes up after my 4:30 pee and though I'm tired, I choose to stay awake sometimes just to feel her moving around. I can sometimes envision how she's positioned and how she's moving...sometimes I poke and her and we have a little "call and response" time. It feels really sweet and special, and I think I'll miss that little "me and her" morning time when she's on the outside, even though I know we'll have it in a whole different way.
QOTW: We have three cats, Manny (3), Dude (10) & Odo (14). J came to our relationship with Dude and Odo, and we got Manny together. Manny is pure love! As I've said before, Maine Coons are the shiznet, and I can't see having any other kind of cat again. He's a mutt, but has major maine coon characteristics. Manny & Odo love each other like mad, and it pains us that one day Manny will have a very, very sad day
I'm not exactly a cat person, though I love MY cats - and a lot of cats. I am not really a dog person, but before J I was with a 'dog person' and I loved our dog. So I'm pretty versatile really, but if I was alone I think I'd be pet-free, or possibly have a cat or two for ease of care compared to dogs, and having a cat like Manny, you get all the benefits of a dog without having to walk them/let them out
Manny (buff) and Odo (black). Dude (cow kitty) poses for photos, literally. Here is one where he was especially hamming it up.
