Re: TTC Check In

  • AF arrived today with a bang so that's a definitive BFN after several days of cramps, backaches, exhaustion, etc. that I thought MUST mean something. Sadly, it appears to mean that PMS is getting worse and/or that I need to be more distracted during the TWW. With this BFN (only our third), we will need to re-evaluate next steps: keep doing ICI at home but change donor? Move onto IUI? Take a break or full steam ahead? We have an appointment to tour a clinic this week. So happy that the wife set that up before AF arrived as it's nice to have another potential option to investigate.

Our most recent vacation was several weeks in Brazil. In May, we visited friends in the Northeast and wife got to see Rio for the first time. We somehow slotted back into our old life (but with money from abroad which made it more comfortable). It was bliss!

    @twoMomsInTX - SOOO exciting!

Nothing new to report here.  Based on some "Activity" that I noticed a few weeks ago, I had marked my calendar to be on the lookout for AF this weekend, but alas there was nothing.  So I'm still in that waiting mode.  If I'm truly going to have to wean 100% to start cycling again, it's going to be a while.  Ahh well.

QOTW:  Our last non-family-related vacation was a few months before we conceived, in March of 2012.  We went on a cruise with a number of old rugby teammates who are now scattered around the country.  It was a blast.  But it almost doesn't count because since about 1996, all of my/our trips have been either family or rugby related.  So the only non-family, non-rugby related vacation that we've taken was back in 2009 when we went to London and Paris for 10 days.  Because I traveled so much for work back then, we flew for free and our hotel in London was free.  I'm so glad we took the opportunity to go when we did.

  • As I mentioned in a separate thread, we have 4 growing embies out of the 9 eggs that were retrieved. I got the call this morning that ET will be tomorrow at 9:30 am. The RE said that they are all still growing strong and that the embryologist can tell which ones are going to do the best and therefore feels confident in a 3dt.

At one of my appointments he said that there are higher live birth rates for 5 day transfers, so I will be honest that I'm a little nervous about this. What will be will be and hopefully we will have some frosties. If not, we still have one fresh cycle that can be started any time between now and next July. FX we get a take home baby instead though!

QOTW: our last vacation was in March when we went to Florida. We had a great time and it was so relaxing. We went to several spots and enjoyed them all.

  • We caved and ended up doing our ICI last night.... Still not sure whether I missed ovulation or haven't ovulated at all.... But yesterday was CD15 and I read that, although it prob lowered our chances, the ICI sperm can possibly live up to 72 hours once it's in the body.... So on the off chance that I haven't ovulated yet, there's still a tiny chance it could work.... Unless I had already ovulated and missed the boat completely. I guess we'll know in two weeks when/if I get AF....

Last vacation we took was to chicago in April with my mom, sister, and niece.... My mom had never been so we wanted to show her the town...
  • I have a few more days left of my BCP. Thursday I go in for my b/us. If everything looks good then I will start my injections shortly after. 400 iu Gonal F and 150 iu. If everything is still on track then the retrieval will be around Aug 4-12. I think L and I are starting to get a little stressed out because I still haven't found a job and our finances are getting low and although our IVF is completely covered this round the freezing of the embryos is not. That's $950 we don't have plus we owe our RE $1200 from the last one. I don't know if we will keep moving forward with the plan and hope we have the money by then or put it off for a few months. I plan on talking to my RE on Thursday so hopefully we can get this all figured out soon.

QOTW: We were just in Portland, OR a few weeks ago visiting family and friends. We had a great time but I'm hoping our next vacation will be just us.

  • Ultrasound this morning on CD12 showed no follicles. This was an unmedicated cycle and all previous CD12 ultrasounds had follicles on the smaller side of mature range. Progesterone level today showed I probably already ovulated. This wasn't even on my radar of things to worry about. Argh! Lesson learned that it may have been a good idea to track OPK even if the RE did not suggest it.

On the bright side-at least one whole month of coffee in the morning and sushi lunches for me.

    Good luck @StacyLH24

  • @channe9 - I'm sorry for your BFN.  I hope that the tour of the clinic will help you decide on next steps.

@TwoMomsinTX - How exciting that you're getting so close!  I hope nothing further delays you.

@Himee33 - It sounds like things are moving along well.  FX that all will go well and you will get a take home baby out of this cycle.  Money definitely is a huge factor in all of this.  I wish it didn't have to be.  I hope everything works out so that you're able to move forward with your plan.

@Mellebee - That stinks that you already ovulated!  I would have been in the same boat as you...I wouldn't have even thought about the possibility of ovulation that early in an unmedicated cycle.

@Mallory4284 - Maybe your timing was just right.  You never know!  I think for some folks, the cycles that worked were the ones that they thought were a bust from the get go.  Hopefully that will be the case for you.

@JGY - Sorry that your body doesn't seem to be cooperating.  C's cousin backed off on bfing so that they could try for their third and I know she said her cycles were hit and miss during that time.

  • BC on Friday!
Cheated as took a HPT, DW had to leave early to go back to Ontario and she was curious, plus I wanted her to feel a part of the process since she will miss the BC.
Faint positive is what we got. Here's hoping it's a true reading and not from the trigger still being in my system.
Time will tell... 3 more days!

@Mallory4284StacyLH24 is wise.  On the cycle that took for us, I was so upset by the timing of IUI that my RE proposed, that I almost yelled into the phone "Is it even WORTH IT for me to come in that late???"  I swallowed those words pretty quickly.

The update from here is that we had another conversation last night and as S put it "We're now more in the 'Let's do it' camp than in the 'Let's not' camp!"  Wow, how did this even happen???

Update ... in a rare display of solidarity with my brain, my body decided to cooperate.  Last night AF showed up.  It had been exactly 29 days since I last pumped.
