16 MO with stomach bug-question

As the title says, my 16 month old has a stomach bug. He's been vomiting all day, and the nurse on call says that if we can get him to keep even a tbs of liquid down in the next hour or so, we should be good without a visit to the ER for fluids. Question for you all: if we can get him to keep a little down every 30-60 min over the next couple of hours, should we wake him at intervals and give him more if he goes to sleep for the night? What do you all think?

It's a hassle to call the after hours service to get a nurse call back, but I guess I'm going to have to.

If you could get him to keep liquids down, I personally wouldn't wake him up and make him drink. Especially not feeling well, he needs the rest. Get some Pedialyte and definiately try more water than juice. Sometimes too much liquid can upset an empty stomach so I would also offer a plain saltine cracker or graham cracker.

DD had the stomach bug at 10 months and my pedi said all they need is 3/4 of an ounce an hour to stay hydrated.  If you can keep offering small amounts of liquid at a time and he can keep it down while he is awake, I wouldn't wake him during the night.  Good luck Mama.  Hope DS is feeling better soon.

OH man, calling after hours is the worst, but can offer relief.

I hope your little guy feels better soon! Mines coming down with a cold, and I hope that's all it is. 

This 90 degrees one day, 70s the next few, and then back to 90 degrees is horrible!

My LO had the stomach bug at 6 months. I had to do a medicine dropper of pedialyte every 10 minutes. And when he slept I let him sleep because I felt like he needed the rest. You just want to make sure your LO has a wet diaper. Did they say anything about how long he can go without one. We had an 8 hour time limit. After 8 hours we would need to go to ER...thankfully he peed at 7.5 hours.

My son had a stomach bug at 10 months and it was rough. We andlternated water and pedialyte but absolutely no milk. We ended up taking him to the ER and they gave him a shot for nausea which helped keep in the fluids. I would rather a quick shot than having my baby suffer through IV fluids.
