Cloth Diapering

Fitteds

I am looking to finally add fitteds to my stash for overnight, which is what you ladies told me a long time ago. (Should have listened in the first place) I am looking to get some OS fitteds, as DD is already 20lbs. Preferably not too expensive. We have been stuffing pockets with the MF and a hemp doubler. She has woken up wet 4 days in a row. Literally wet, soaked the diaper and both inserts, soaked the PJs and soaked the sheets. I didn't know a 6 month old could have so much pee. Our stash currently consists of Freetimes and 4.0s. We never even have to double stuff during the day, so I have no idea why she pees so much at night. I have tried to adjust the rise and it just makes huge leg gaps. It is as tight as I can make it at the waist as well.

Suggestions?

Twinkie Tush and Twinkie Tush Night Nights get lots of love arouund here for ON. Lots of people also have good luck with S'bish snapless multis or S'bisb OBFs.

I actually really like using a snappied bamboo prefold with a hemp doubler. It's cheaper than a fitted, holds a ton of pee, cleans up really easily, and is customizable in absorbency.

No matter what you choose, you'll need a cover big enough to cover a bulky fitted or prefold. Wool is a good option. I also really like my Blueberry Coveralls. They are cut very generously and cover fitteds well.

  • We got a couple of sbish snapless fitteds at the recommendation of the ladies here and have been really happy with them. If they're not dry (we only have 2) then I'll use a pocket stuffed with a prefold and a bamboo doubler. It's super bulky though.

We tried a snappied prefold last night with a couple thin bamboo inserts with a cover and I actually think I liked that more than a stuffed pocket.

One day we may try a Twinkie Tush but I wanted a little more bang for my buck and we've been happy.

@CLLDLL Where is a good place to look at Twinkie Tush? The only thing I found on their website was $172 for 4 and that is not cheap. I've looked at S'bish in the past but they are sized, I'm looking for OS. Also what prefolds do you use. We currently have Bummis infant size. Which are too small to actually fold around DD so I could only use them to stuff or line something.

I've always washed everything together I didn't realize that the prefolds were organic cotton, does that even matter?

  • This content has been removed.
  • Think about getting a few larger size prefolds to try snappied with your inserts. You should be able to find a decently priced prefold at least to test it.

  • The twinky tush night night are expensive. One in a while they will have a pre-order so you can try them out. I don't have Facebook but you may check out the b/s/t page. They are amazing! I have one and rotate it with my other night times solution which is a thirsties hemp inset wrapped in an applecheeks 3layer bamboo inset stuffed in a bg4.0. This also works very well. Most nights there is some of the inserts that are not wet, but I've never had so leak with this combination. You can both of those insert on amazon.

  • Also, check out our weekly swap page. People often post used or NIP Twinkie Tushes or various fitteds that would work for ON priced for less than new.

This could work, because I have the thirsties hemp and 4.0s. I'll look into applecheeks.

Another sbish snapless user here. I love those diapers. DD has had a few rough nights and has eaten more so she woke up much wetter in the morning but no leaks. I can't believe how absorbent they are.

I also agree about the apple cheeks. The 2 ply are much trimmer and absorb quite a bit but the 3 ply is thicker and better for night time.

  • We have 4 Sbish snapless, 2 TTs and 2 TTNNs. We don't need the full absorbency of the TTNNs so I leave out the big front soaker.

I have to say that I actually prefer the Sbish over the TTs, only because they seem to launder a bit more easily, now that DS is a toddler and his pee more readily turns into ammonia. The TTs do separate into nice thin layers, but something about the fabric, combined with our super-hard water, seems to lead more easily to problematic buildup, so I find myself stripping them more often than I would like.

Ecoposh are also supposed to be a decent ON diaper but I don't have personal experience with them.
  • I like to stalk Spots for fitted lots to save money. I just bought 2 Bagshot Row Bamboos for $15 ppd.

I have two Ecoposh.  They are definitely bullet proof.  The inserts are awesome.  But I have really hard water & I do have to strip them pretty often.  Also, I don't dryer dry, so they get crunchy pretty quickly.

I don't have any TT/TTNNs, but I think you got some good advice about where to look to pick up one to try.

I use Imagine bamboo prefolds from Nickis.  I've been using them for over a year now & they've held up really well.  I originally got a size bigger than what use during the daytime to give extra absorbency.  You definitely do need to be able to snappi at your baby's age.  If they tummy or side sleep you'll probably get leak out the legs if you try to just tri-fold.  I've actually gotten away with tri-folding with my little guy, but he's almost two.  He's eating more solids than BM now, so he's really slowed down in the ON peeing department now.

I have also heard really good things about the GMD (green mountain diapers/cloth-eez) bamboo prefolds, and a couple ladies on here ( @unaveragejane and @chickypoo2468 ) use Sbish bamboo flats which I guess are really more like a prefold.

ETA: Just noticed your comment about perfolds being organic cotton.  You only have to wash cotton/hemp/bamboo separate from synthetics for prepping.  After than you can wash everything together.  No worries.

  • We use exclusively TT's now. TTNN's at night for our heavy wetter and TT's and TT Fusions during the day minus a cover.

  • If you want to go cheaper check out the diaper right bamboo fitteds. I also really like esbaby. They're on etsy and also have a website and they have some cheaper options, especially if you buy in a set.

  • We have some imagine bamboo fitteds. They hold up well overnight and are inexpensive ($17), but are so bulky. I keep them as back ups since they have velcro, but we use sbish snapless regularly.
