Getting Mirena removed UPDATE

I have had the Mirena for 3 years since DD was born. I have had mixed feelings about it, at times loving it and other times hating it. Monday, I will finally get it removed. My GP is strongly suggesting it (I developed high BP during pregnancy and am trying to deal with it without meds). The Mirena was a good fit because I had very heavy bleeding after having DD, so I am a little concerned. If you have had it removed, was the removal painful? How were things after? (Did you quickly return to normal periods, etc)? TIA

  • My first removal was fine no issues or pain really at all and I had it in for 5 years. My second expelled itself and I didnt even feel it until it was almost all the way out.
I didn't have normal periods so the fact that I went back to being irregular was normal for me.

  • It was quick and painless. I had no withdrawal bleeding. Had a very light period about two weeks after removal and them after the it went right back to normal until I got pregnant.

  • Well, TMI but I went to get my Mirena removed today and the DR COULDN'T FIND IT!! He started saying that I would need an ultrasound and then might have to get it surgically removed. He decided to try to find it on his own first... Which was VERY painful, but was able to locate and remove it.... Thank goodness!!

  • Yikes -- I'm glad that he was able to remove it without surgery.  I'm sorry it hurt, though -- ouch!

  • @olp920‌ No, he could not find the strings (either they broke or curled up....)... Luckily it was not dislodged!
