KEEPING LO sleep during the day?

DD has a hard time napping. She'll sleep for 5-10 minutes and then wake up. All.Day.Long. I've started to realize that many times when she's fussy it's because she's tired, but she just won't stay asleep! She sleeps great at night, just terrible naps during the day. She's 7 weeks.

Any tips to help her stay asleep so she gets the rest she needs?

I wear ds for all his naps. At this point I'm more concerned with him napping than where he's napping. Once he gets consistent and easy to fall asleep (he fights) then I will begin putting him down in his bed starring with one nap and increasing from there.
  • @florassecret‌ Are you on scheduled naps? Or do you just put him on when he gets tired?

I'd like to avoid wearing her constantly bc.I have a 17 month old daughter who also needs a ton of my time. It's just harder to bend and get down to play with her while wearing DD2

  • Oh that would make things tricky! @artoyer.

Kinds a schedule. He did it on his own. It's a two hour cycle of eating playing then sleep. I look for a yawn or I can see it in his eyes. It's typically 30 minutes but he can go.like 45. I get 1 one hour in the am.
  • No advice BC my 8 wk old DD is the same exact way!!
  • I find I can get a lot done while wearing him in the moby wrap which also holds his head nice in place and he doesn't wake up to my noisiness hardly at all. I am usually able to get him down for one good 2-3 hour nap in his rnp in the afternoon by nursing him to sleep, and if he doesn't fall asleep that way I gently rock/bounce him while singing to him and ensure binky stays in his mouth :)

  • Babywearing works great for us. I usually take DD1 to do something outside 9.30-11.30am and 4-6pm. I strap DD2 in the carrier and she sleeps the entire time. If we stay home and I try to nap her in the crib I get less than 30min.

No advice but we're in the same boat. .. only at night too. Good luck to all. This too shall pass. Right?

  • I also rely on baby wearing. If I'm lucky, she'll sleep in her bouncer for 30-40 mins but usually not. She'll sleep for a couple of hours in the Ktan and then in the evening, she'll sleep on DH's chest for another couple of hours. I share @florassecret's philosophy on this. For the time being, whatever it takes to get her to sleep is what we'll do because otherwise, we pay for it at night.

I was relying on baby wearing but honestly now that ds hit 9 w he's just started sleeping better during the day on his own! Baby wearing is a God send when it comes to getting them to sleep and still being able to do errands etc! Good luck mama

Piggyback ? for babywearers which I hope might also help others though OP needs a non-babywearing solution : did it take some training/getting used to for LO? Mine will sometimes sleep in the snugli or ktan (though I still have trouble getting the ktan arranged properly) if I'm really moving - going up and down stairs or walking fast and/or on rough terrain. When I stop she usually wakes up. Also its hard to get her into the carrier - she has to be really really full or else notices she's near a boob and demands access to it (and i still haven't figured out how to nurse in carrier) by crying and crying so then has to come back out of carrier to nurse again.

  • Babywearing is the only sure thing for us.  Sometimes the swing works.  I held DD1 for pretty much all of her naps (unless we were in the car) until she was 10 months old when she magically started napping in her crib.

@springbeduk2 I have to stay moving to keep DD asleep in a wrap.
I have a feeling ds will one day decide as well. And by then I would have tried and tried to no avail. I don't mind the snuggles though. And we prefer it to a swing but it works for us.
  • If I want him to sleep longer than an hour I have to wear him. He's 13 weeks old. :(
