Hi Ladies...

Although I dont need to hire a babysitter yet...what is the going rate these days?

It varies on where you are. I'm in Chicago and it's $10-$15.

Here in the Bay Area I made about $17-20/hr, but was in college for teaching and had CPR classes under my belt.

Honestly, the more I got paid the harder I worked. I had a mom pay me $15 for two kids and I let them watch TV a lot. It was fine with the mom, but when I get paid more I make sure the tv is off and we do projects and play games. I am horrible. But am totally worth $20+/hr

Wow....here $15 an hour for two kids is a lot. I can't imagine paying $80-100 to go out for an evening. If you judge what you do with kids based on the amount you get paid then I am relieved that we get teenagers and not adults.

We pay $10 an hour and I come home to lots of crafts and toys that looked played with. Our babysitter is a senior in high school which maybe makes a difference.

We have a high schooler that babysits SS (he's 7) and we pay her $8 an hour. Though sometimes depends on the time of day (is he asleep or awake...). No idea what we'll pay a sitter when they're watching the baby. Right now we only leave him with our parents.

I live in Manitoba, Canada but my 17 year old daughter who does a ton of babysitting charges $10/hr. This seems to be the going rate in my area.

In my area (northern VA right by DC) I've seen $10-15 for a teenager and $15-25 for an adult.

In my area, $6/hr for one kid for a high school sitter. $8-$10 for a college sitter. I round up if they're awake the whole time. If the kid(s) are sleeping and the sitter is just hanging out, I pay on the lower end. Care.com will give you the rate for your area.

We just hired a college student to watch LO for 5 hours in the evenings...freakin' $12/hr...$60/night!! A LOT PER WEEK!!

I made $3/hr as a sitter. Im so old

We pay $12 an hour for two kids. We've only been gone when they are both sleeping though.

We pay $10 an hr but have seen it vary widely...some people pay $3-4 an hr.. I can't imagine trusting my kids with someone who is willing to accept so little ( or me thinking that their time is only worth that much)

When I babysat I really didn't have a set amount I would babysit for. One family who had 2 kids woukd pay me such random amounts. The later and drunker they came home the more money I made. They would basically give me anywhere between $45-$70 bucks. It was so funny!
