WM Recommendations - Travel Edition

My new assignment requires more travel.  I'm looking for the following work travel related items and was hoping someone had some faves:

  • Laptop backpack
  • Spinner luggage: overhead bin size

And not totally travel related, I'm looking to invest in a nice, classic, long-lasting purse.  I'm past the days of needing a diaper bag so I'd like to finally spend some money ($300 max) on a classic, all-season purse that I could use for a while.  I wear mostly blacks/grays/jewel tones in winter and navys/whites/bright colors in summer.  Suggestions?

Re: WM Recommendations - Travel Edition

  • I have an Ogio backpack from Office Depot that I love! And I like Samsonite spinner luggage. For bags, I just got a very nice black, white, and stone (putty) leather Coach bag at Dillard's on clearance for under $300. It's very classic and I think it will work for all seasons. Though I'm a bag fiend, so I have a ton. Dooney & Bourke has good, long-lasting leather bags too.

  • laptop backpack - I'd look at ebags.com. I LOVE their brand of laptop bag that can be wheeled and also converts to a backpack. It has enough pockets to stay organized and a section to pack clothes. Easy to travel with this and a handbag for a 3'ish day trip.

As for spinner luggage, I'm loyal to Samsonite but there are better (more expensive) and other comparable brands. I'd look for something lightweight. For overhead bin bags I'd carefully consider whether you really NEED a spinner as the extra two wheels can reduce packing space. I mostly find spinners helpful on large suitcases that would need to be checked...SO much easier to roll on hard ground!  That said, I do have a Samsonite spinner in both sizes!

For purses I'd look at Kate Spade.  The outlet offers several leather options, classic, feminine styling, at great prices.

Our Briggs & Riley carry on is really nice, lots of compartments & whatnot and quite durable- my SIL who used to do a ton of work travel recommended it to us. Not cheap though.

Are you looking for a work purse, like something large? I have now had 2 Kate Spade diaper bags as my work purse (got the first one well before I had any kids), they don't look at all like diaper bags, have lots of pockets & are big & roomy which I personally like in a bag for work (esp when I used to commute and extra shoes were often in there).  I always buy last season's designs off ebay or at an outlet to keep the cost down.
