At my appointment today, I brought up the yellow mucus discharge Ive been having since Ive recently noticed it has a "fishy" odor to it sometimes. He said this could be a sign of an infection that could possibly lead to preterm labor and prescribed me an antibiotic for it. I also mentioned my period-like cramps and he said he wouldnt be surprised if the antibiotic cleared those up, too.
He didnt say anything else and I honestly didnt know what to ask him. He seemed in a hurry.
I googled (I know...) my symptoms to see if I could find out the name of the infection and this seems to be it.
Has anyone had any experience with this that can tell me more? He didnt say anything about testing me for it, just treating it. I feel kind of confused!
Re: Bacterial Vaginosis-anyone with experience?
Yeah I read that too. Was it "trich" that you had possibly? They said that it sexually transmitted and your SO is often treated at the same time as you.
@MRSclarke08
I forgot to mention this to my dr, but the past two times Ive had sex, it has been kind of painful. I dont have pain while urinating tho. I guess Ill just try the antibiotic and see what happens...
The claim that antibiotics will also resolve the cramping is super dubious, too. I wouldn't just press for more answers, I'd complain.
My advice is to go to a health food store and get a good probiotic. I thought I was super-pregnant-woman and thought I was too cool for probiotics and at that point diarrhea would be a welcomed side effect. What I didn't plan for was the horrible yeast infection I got a week later. Eat yogurt. Take a probiotic. Trust me.
I had BV fairly early on with my first. I went in to see my dr between the monthly visits bc the itching & odor were terrible. I took a ten day antibiotic. I was also told that my husband & I were probably passing it back & forth, however he wasn't treated & I had no other problems with BV after taking the antibiotic. I did end up with a yeast infection about a month later. Possibly related? Or just dumb luck. I ate yogurt twice a day about 2hours after taking the medicine. You don't want to eat it too close to taking it, bc it can affect how well the meds work.
