Re: FFFC

  • I know it's not the best choice, but I also feel it's pretty similar to water, especially as watered down as I make it. I pretty much live off crystal light myself. It's the only way I get water. My doctor doesn't have any issue with it, I just wish I hadn't ever started it with Grey. I keep trying watered down juice, water with fruit, and water with ice. I will continue to work on pushing the water or maybe adding less and less crystal light until I can remove it without him noticing?

MH saw how much Bebs birthday dress cost and told me it "better spew gold and rainbows" there was also a word a lady wouldn't use in there so i'll leave it out.  So, thats our money discussions... I spend it, he gives me the side eye.  Big purchases we discuss and make together.

Fit is all I care about in jeans.  I would spend all the money on the pair of jeans with that perfect fit.

I've only ever given my kid milk and water.  I am not sure if she's even had juice.  Milk and water are the only non-alcoholic beverages we ever have in the house.

  • @BPer‌ What kind of bourbon is that? Dh is currently on a rye kick, but is a huge bourbon fan in general. Maybe it could be a special treat for something.

He's currently on a Pappy VanWinkle kick. It's insanely hard to get depending on where you live, and we are in upstate ny, which isn't known for it's bourbon culture. H is on lists at various liquor stores for 5yr, 10yr, etc. So they call him when they get something in and he gets it. In Kentucky, where our friends live, you won't see it for less than $500 a bottle, typically.
He has others that he's into. He's developing quite a collection.

  • My kids drink juice. Daily. Other than that they drink water.
They don't like milk in a any variation since pulling bottles, so that sucks. We try periodically, but so far, they don't even want chocolate milk. So we moved on to calcium gummies and call it a day.
No aspartame in my house because I am allergic.

Oh, they also get ice tea as a special treat here and there - and I fill it into a sippy when it happens. Oh, the horrors.

I thought people only drank stuff like that in the movies!! I'm in shock!

$500 would buy a lot of chateau ste michelle riesling... ;) I'm so cheap.

ETA: @BPer does it taste exponentially better to him, or is it just kind of a fun hobby thing?

If he really won't take water (and I think you probably need to try that first), you could start a blend of the Crystal Light with 100% juice and then decrease the juice.

But honestly, I think you can cut this cold turkey.  Our kids aren't infants who have to be transitioned a little at a time from BM to formula or anything anymore.

Maybe your doctor doesn't have a problem with it for you, and that's fine for YOU but you yourself admit that there's not enough research for you to feel comfortable giving it to your kid.

I'm only on page 1 here, but I'm confused by the "hehehe I sneak purchases past my husband. and hehe he has no idea how much credit card debt I have".  That would be a serious issue in our relationship. Talk about fucking up the whole trust thing.
No one is racking up $5k in credit card debt and not telling their husbands, so call off Dr. Phil. I really don't see how having separate credit cards is different than separate accounts + a joint account. We both make money, we both buy what we want. I'm sure he doesn't want to know how much I spend on clothes, and I don't want to know that the bourbon he's drinking is $300 a bottle. It's really not a trust issue.
See, DH totally does want to know how much I'm spending on clothes.  And I can't think of a single thing that he spends $300 on, except maybe car maintenance.  Definitely nothing that is just for fun.  But we share one income.  Everyone's family financial situation is different, and I think the key is honestly communicating with your spouse, being on the same page for financial planning and having joint goals, and both feeling comfortable with each other's spending.  If those things are in line between spouses, then nobody has any rights to judge, IMHO.

The more I thought about it, the more I think this is the way to go.  No all at once "the thing you could have yesterday isn't allowed today" but a gradual weaning off so he's drinking water without thinking about it.
  • I hate aspartame. But K's pediatrician recommended Activia for her poop issues. About a month or so into it, she had major gas and actually told me her belly hurt. Between that and the aspartame in it, I an actually switching her to Greek God yogurt with probiotics.

  • I can't stand the taste of the stuff. I don't understand how you can consume it. I think weaning him or cold turkey with milk and water offered along with high liquid foods, as was suggested, would be the next step. BP, thanks. I'll look into it.

DH has been dying to taste that! We know of a couple bars around here that carry it, but he is worried he will pay $60 for a glass and hate it. Ha.

Having separate banking accounts is a totally different thing.

But the whole first page was about lying about how much things cost.  That IS a trust issue.

I started that confession so I will respond. I really think if our spouses truely cared that would be a different story. I don't lie about costs, but I also don't walk in the door and pull out receipts. It doesn't matter to DH and he has every opportunity to look himself and chooses not to. If we were in a financial hardship it would be a different story, but we're not.

I think your jumping on a 'shame on you all' train when it is likely not a big deal at all to the spouses of those who made the confessions.
