Cramping

Has anyone had cramping recently? I'll be 28 weeks tomorrow and started having some cramping this afternoon that has not gone away. They are period like cramps and radiate from my lower abdomen to my vagina. I've been feeling baby move all day so at least I'm a little less worried that way. I also haven't had any contractions. I'm a little torn on calling the doctor since I requested a medical records transfer to my new OB on Monday so I feel like I'm in a bit of limbo... I haven't met my new doctor but my old doctor probably sent my records already so I'm not their patient anymore. Ugh!

If you've had cramping, what was it and is there anything you were advised to do to make it go away?

  • I usually drink mega amounts of Gatorade when I'm crampy, uncomfortable. Paired with Tylenol, to usually does the trick. If you are concerned, however, it may be best to call your old ob. Good luck!

  • Does your insurance have an ask-a-nurse type of number? I agree with pp, I'd try relaxing and drinking plenty of water. I've only had some random here and there cramps, nothing consistent.

  • Staying hydrated is important but also empty your bladder often. (As if you're not already doing this) Having a full bladder can cause uterine irritability.

  • Ive had period like cramps every so often the whole pregnancy. My OB says some will have it their entire pregnancy but as long as you arent bleeding it is usually not a concern.

They advised me to do what I do when I have BH. Drink water, lay down, empty bladder etc.

I had one (thankfully just one) that was bad enough to wake me up last night. I've been having BH, which have been totally painless, so this was kind of a surprise. I have an appt in a few hours, so I'm going to bring it up.

  • I have had some constant period cramps. It's nothing that really bothers me because they are really just like a period - they do not come and go or change in intensity. Sometimes they are a little but more uncomfortable if I have to use the restroom. I stay really hydrated but these don't go away. I mentioned it to my doctor at my last appointment and she said it is most likely because my uterus is still growing and stretching. She said as long as they are no stronger than period type cramps and my uterus isn't contracting like it would for a contraction regularly, then I am fine.

  • Thanks everyone! I drank a bunch of water last night and went to bed early. I feel a lot better this morning although a little bit crampy still. I'll just continue to drink tons of water and hope it goes away. I am still feeling baby move around in there so that makes me feel better.
