Hemorrhoids Eek!!!

So here's a subject I thought I would NEVER be discussing with anyone, but here it is. I'm 28 weeks and the Hemorrhoids have arrived. Can anyone give me their thoughts on home remedies or how to make this more comfortable? Also, is there any risk to my baby with me still having 12 weeks to go? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Hemorrhoids Eek!!!

  • Witch hazel, Tucks pads, Sitz baths, cream. Can't think of any risk to your baby from them... Hope you get some relief soon

  • Tucks pads are good.  Someone even told me to put them in the refrigerator to make them nice and cold - I didn't do this, but could see how it might be helpful.

Drink lots and lots of water and eat fiber rich foods. That will help to alleviate some of the issues with good ole h-roids. If they are bad then ask your OB for a reference to help with getting them taken care of.

  • I agree with the tucks. I LOVED them after DS for my horrendous tear and irritation.

  • There's an earlier thread on this board about hemorrhoids, maybe from three weeks ago? Lots of good advice in that, too. Sorry I don't have the link, but you may want to search it.

And, no, there's no risk to your baby.

  • No risk. I got them all the time when I was pregnant with my daughter, luckily I've avoided them this time around. But my advice would be to use witch hazel. Seriously - WITCH HAZEL. I think I wrote about this on the other thread (or maybe the fb group. Somewhere) but if you put a little on a wash cloth and then hold it on or sit on it for a few minutes. They go away like magic. Plus witch hazel is good for tons of other things too, bug bites, bruises, acne.

Sorry, mama :( If it's any consolation, the pain is not necessarily going to be constant from now until October. Not to be gross, but they can sorta pop back in...

Quick note - if your symptoms don't improve with all the standard treatments, see a doctor, preferably a specialist. You need to be sure it's hemmroids and not something like a fissure. The treatment for the two conditions is different so if you're doing all the hemorrhoid stuff and seeing no improvement, that could be why. Happened to me! Good luck.
