Are you sure that he is really waking up? Babies tend to have a sleep transition between 30-45 minutes, some babies even cry out during this time but they aren't completely awake. I would do anything you can to extend naps (rocking, swing, in the carrier) to get you closer to the 2.5-3 hours. My guess would be that after one short nap and then a snack feeding it sets up the rest of the day for snacking. If you know thay he only wants a snack, or only wants to eat cause he awake, I would just try to extend the nap.
Yeah, he's awake. I do almost always try to rock him back to sleep... it works maybe 50% of the time (and most of the time he wakes back up after another 10 minutes or so). I'm just very frustrated. I feel like I spend most of my day trying to get this kid to sleep!
Have you tried using a pacifier to give him something to suck on during these times? Is he gaining weight well?

Yep he has a soothie. Occasionally he will drift back off if I go in and stick it back in his mouth but not very often.
And yes, he is gaining weight like crazy. At last check - at around 6 weeks - he was 14 lbs.
I think I just have a cat napper. His big brother was the same way until he went down to 2 naps per day. Then they lengthened a bit. I'm gonna keep working on it though!
I would love to put mine down to sleep earlier and do a dream feed, but when he's sleepy he's impossible to feed. I currently spend half his feeds doing things to keep him awake. He tends to fall asleep during feedings as is so I don't know how to dream feed without waking him to the point of really upsetting him. right now we do "bed time" routine and feeding starting around 9 he's asleep around 10 and usually sleeps till 3 and then diaper change and feed and right back to bed until 6ish.
We are loosely following this and LO is sleeping 5/6-3-3 at night and eating around 2.5-3 during the day. It seems to work well for her and she's gaining weight at a great rate.
I read Babywise before my first was born, and follow parts of it. I really like the eat, play, sleep thing. Viv is only 3.5 weeks, so it's not always possible to keep her awake after a feed, but I try to engage her as much as possible. I do follow her feeding cues, rather than trying to schedule them, but I always try and check other issues if she's fussy and it seems to be too soon for her to be hungry. She is currently sleeping longer stretches at night, and for the most part eating about every 3 hours during the day.
The Babywise book emphasizes sticking to three hour feeding cycles during the day. Do you think it's okay to occasionally go four hours? Sometimes my baby is still napping after 3 hours and it seems silly to wake him. He eats PLENTY and is gaining a ton of weight.
@MaddieRosie The reason they want you to stick to 3 hr cycles is so LO is getting all their feeds in during the day. I wake every three hours unless we have had a hard day (no naps, dr appt, etc).
ETA: But they also advocate using your judgement because you know LO best.
I followed this approach with my second child and now with this one. I think it gets them on a great schedule! My 8 week old slept 10 hrs last night. She nurses every 2.5-3.5 hrs during the day. I recommend "baby wise" to all my new mom friends!
Now that the in laws (and their opinions) are gone. We are finally going full BW. LO is 6 weeks and I feel like we should have implemented this earlier. We've been doing the basic schedule but she's been in our room. So tonight is her first night in her room. Tear. I will miss having her close but I know it's for the best. Any recommendations or advice? Do any of you still use a rocking chair ?
