ICP

I have been so itchy lately and it is getting worse. At first I made up every excuse as to why I was itchy, especially because I have no rash or skin irritation (except for where I have scratched my skin open). I finally brought it up to my OB last night, and he thinks I might have ICP. I’m just waiting on my blood work to rule it out or confirm the diagnosis.

If it is ICP, I was told I would be put on medication and have to deliver early to prevent any harm to the baby. Anyone have any experience with ICP?

Re: ICP

  • I had it with DS.  I was induced at 37 weeks.  I was put on actigall (sp?) it doesn't relieve all of the itching but most of it.  DS is a healthy and crazy 20 month old.  Also try luke warm showers they were my saving grace when the itching got too bad.

I mean, whatever you're into I guess. Maybe the whole family could go to delivery in full clown makeup

I've been taking around 3 showers a day.  It helps for all of 10 minutes but those 10 minutes are amazing.  Are they worried at all of you developing ICP with this pregnancy?  I've read once you get it, you will probably have that problem with your next pregnancy.

  • I have no experience with this but maybe all the extra showers are drying out your skin and making it worse? Have you tried the Aveeno oatmeal bath? That stuff is magic! I hope your tests come back quickly and you get good news!

When I asked my Dr about it he said no.  He said it was due to the baby's blood type and that most likely will not happen again.  I haven't heard this but I am not a Dr.  I am hoping that I do not get it this time!! Fingers crossed you don't have it either!! Being that itchy with nothing that they can do about it sucks!!!
