Trying to Get Pregnant

NTNP vs Actively trying

Do you think there is a difference? To me I've thought that if you're not preventing a pregnancy then technically you're trying.

We just started trying this month but I'm not charting (and I PROMISE not to ask if I'm pregnant). We are just having sex for now and I may start charting soon.

I think there is. DH and I were NTNP since January. I think of NTNP as sex without protection. When you want, no charting/OPKs, no pressure. It's like shooting a blank in the dark though. If you have no idea when you O, how can you be truly trying to conceive?

Last month, I started taking steps to actively determine my O (i.e. temping/charting). That's TTC IMHO.

    EDIT: Added words to clarify.

  • So what is it called when you're not temping/charting but not preventing and get KU. To me, that's NTNP. Albeit not aggressive, I think when you start temping/charting, you're either actively preventing or actively trying. That's just MHO.

  • We're trying to have a baby but I'm not charting. So I say we're TTC. No I can't pinpoint ovulation but hoping that sex every other day/every 2 days that something will happen

According to my RE, if you're having regular (2-3x a week) intercourse without protection, it's "trying" for the purposes of your 12 months until a referral timeline

I think if we're talking strictly emotionally it's not as clear. If you want to call it NTNP, cool. If you want to call it trying, cool. If you want to call it FWAPBNGAS (fucking with a purpose but not giving any shits) that's cool too.
Who's got time for that shit? I guess I'll never be TTC then. :P

  • To me NTNP means "if it happens it happens" nothing more than that.

TTC means being more aware of your fertility and purposely trying to have a baby.

  • I believe each individual or couple has their own definition of ntnp as opposed to ttc.  For me, charting temp, cp, cf and purposely having intercourse during fertile week/days is ttc.
  • I think it's more about the attitude than the method. I thought we were NTNP this first cycle, until I realized I was worried that I didn't O for a long time, then relieved when I did and we managed to hit it. Clearly we are TTC.

You can chart, temp, etc. but if your attitude is lackadaisical, you're NTNP.

  • Yes, I agree with the way you state it @3houlagirl !
  • For the past six months my husband and I have been actively trying-- I was charting, using OPKs, taking Letrozole, using a trigger shot and even did an IUI.

After our second miscarriage in four months, this month we are NTNP--  I am not charting, I'm not using OPKs, I told my dr I'll call them in September, and we are just having sex to have sex.
