S/O laundry and flame retardant

In the post about fabric softeners, some posters mentioned they don't buy pajamas with flame retardant. How do you know which ones do and which ones don't? I always thought there was a law requiring children's sleepwear to have flame retardant. Of course I'd prefer to avoid chemicals if possible. My boys wear mostly Carter's pajamas.

On the other hand... Obviously flame retardant exists for a reason. Does it really keep our LOs safer?

Interesting... I'll need to pay more attention to the tags. I do seem to recall the snug cotton ones having those yellow tags. But I've never noticed a tag stating they were in fact treated.
