Postpartum Depression

Setback & Celexa reaction

So I posted last week that I had gone to the doctor and started on Celexa, and had a referral to behavioral health in. Well, turns out Celexa and I don't agree with each other. Extreme nausea to the point where I wasn't eating, constantly tired but in a druggy way, not just a general mom-of-a-newborn way, headaches, shaking hands/arms...the works. So I called my regular doctor and he told me to stop it and maybe try just therapy for a little bit. Well, behavioral health called today and they can't get me in till August 11th.

Basically I'm just feeling really discouraged today. I thought I was on the road to treating this, but everything's just gotten pushed back. I left a message with my doctor that I wanted to go ahead with meds since they couldn't see me till August, but he hasn't called back yet.

Hang in there.  Figuring out meds is really tough.  It may not be what you want to hear but I had to try 5 or 6 before I found something without experiencing side effects.  Are you working with your OBGYN or your family practitioner?  It helped me to see an actual psychiatrist, he seemed to be so much more knowledgeable about those kinds of drugs.  I know you're feeling discouraged but it seems like you're doing a really good job of trying to stay on top of this.  Depression is often baby steps forward with huge leaps back.  Eventually, you'll find what works and it won't feel so hard.  Keep your Aug appointment.  Hopefully by that time, you and your doctor will find something that works for you and talking to someone then will be good additional support.  GL.

  • You have to find the right combo of meds and therapy. I wont lie it can take time. I felt no help from Zoloft but Celexa worked for me in a week! How long have you been on it and what dose? The does could be too high ir too low. Mine was too low and they doubled it one Saturday... by MOnday I could think again! So I would ask about the dose or an alternative to take. Do you by chance attend a church? They may have counseling. Good luck! This will one day be just a bad memory.....
