Amusement parks during 1st trimester?

I am about 5 weeks pregnant. What rides do you think I could ride at an amusement park? My father asked me to go with him on Friday.

Re: Amusement parks during 1st trimester?

  • Contact your OB!!! (Please)

I went to a waterpark, but only did some tube rides. Someone had mentioned that rollercoasters, etc, won't do much in the first few weeks because the baby is cushioned behind the bone, but I don't know how valid that is. It's a matter of how much you want to risk. I'd say it would be good to avoid things that are really jarring, but don't really know!

We will be in Disney towards the end of my first tri. I plan to speak with my OB about it but I'll probably only do the rides my toddler can do - so nothing with lots of bumps, sharp turns, big drops.

  • I went to one last weekend. Every single attraction had the don't ride if pregnant disclaimer. That said, I read the description and made a judgement call. If it said slow ride with gentle turns, yes I rode it. If it said thrill ride, I told my kiddo that my tummy was upset (also true) and I was going to pass on that one. Most of the "family" rides were fine, but I also passed on a lot.

  • I forgot about this before getting KTFU ... We haven't made it to Cedar Point yet this year & I was sooo sad when I realized I can't go. (I only ride the roller coasters.) I told my husband if this bean doesn't stick I am drowning my sorrows on the Raptor. He thought that was morbid but promised to take me!
  • My doctor told me it was fine until the baby rises above the pelvic bone. I rode a couple at 3 weeks pregnant and there were no bad side effects.

  • I'd stick to the mellow rides.  I'm sure it would be fine to go on a few roller coasters, but I'd personally rather not risk anything past 4-5 weeks pregnant.  Once the placenta is attached.  When I went to Disney with my niece she was terrified of "scary rides" and how we convinced her rides wouldn't be scary is by going on the ones that were OK for pregnant women.  Lol!

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.

  • @kmiller1992 I had the same concern since I got my BFP a week before going to Disney/Universal Studios. I spoke with a nurse at my OB office and she said that at 5 weeks (which is about where I was when I went too), baby is still low down and fairly safe. It would be best to not ride the roller coasters that toss you around or that the harness presses ONLY on your stomach (think Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom). But other than that I should be fine as long as I felt comfortable. For the most part I was fine, did the little roller coasters like Thunder Mountain but avoided the larger rides like Harry Potter & Dueling Dragons over at Universal because of the dramatic turns, excessive G-force, etc. Mostly she said just make sure you stay super hydrated and take a break if you need it while walking around.

I'm just glad we seem to have moved on from the flying while pregnant questions.
