NCDR Monitors

I've been trying to order an extra camera for our Motorola baby monitor. It's been out of stock on Amazon for weeks, and now it seems to be the same story everywhere. I was hoping to have it by the time DS2 arrives in case he ever naps in his crib, but it seems this will not happen. I'm thinking about just taking the camera out of DS1's room, but I still use it every day to know when he wakes up. I'm also nervous about taking it out and then wanting it back in there again when we transition him to a toddler bed (probably around Christmas). Should I just put on the big girl panties and take the monitor out of DS1's room, or do you like to keep an eye on your toddler?? (I totally realize that DS2 may not sleep in his room until he is several months old, so this is all just speculation for now.)

Re: NCDR Monitors

  • We bought an extra to keep an eye on the 2 year old and the new baby. I feel too nervous to take it out of his room. That might make me a helicopter mom but whatevs.

Yesterday he woke up from his nap and was silent. Somehow he had gotten a hold of a pen and was drawing all over his body. Because I could see him I got to him before too much damage was done. I would have not known he was even awake if we didn't have the camera.

I feel like stuff like this comes up a lot. Not necessarily destructive stuff but there are multiple times a week where I feel happy we have it. We will probably use it until he is old enough to consistently get out of bed and come get us if something is wrong.

  • I say use the one you have, but that's probably because we really don't use the sound-only monitor that we have, much less a video monitor. It seems way excessive to me.

  • We stopped using a monitor the second Rosie got into her own bed. She would unplug it often so we just stopped plugging it in. We'll see about Cade.

  • I say use the one you already have. We never used a monitor at all. we registered for a sound only one, and then I gave it to my mom to use it with my grandma. We have it back but I never found the need for it. I figure toddlers are going to get into trouble if you are watching or not. Keep his room safe and let life happen.

  • When I was looking at extra cameras for our monitor,( Motorola ) it was only 50 more to get a whole new set up with two cameras, than to just get an extra camera. You may look into it of you decide to keep the monitor with both kids.

The camera for our system is about $100, but a new system with two cameras is $250. :(
