Cloth Diapering

What would the cloth diaper board do?

I pump at work 2 - 3 times a day.

It's a separate room in the woman's bathroom, with a fridge and chair and locking door.

I usually take in two paper towels and put my pump parts on them as I set-up and breakdown for the session.

It also allows me to clean up after myself if anything should spill.

There is another woman that uses the room.  It's pretty clear that she has spilled several times and not cleaned up after herself (twice she's just put a magazine over it).

I've already requested HR to put sanitary wipes in the room, because maybe then she'll clean up.

My thought is, I'll clean up the area with a boat load of wipes. If she leaves a mess again, I'll email HR and complain.  What would you guys do?  Complaining to her is out of the question.  I don't want anyone getting hurt feelings or going to HR about me not going through proper channels.

Re: What would the cloth diaper board do?

  • Sigh why is it so hard to wipe things up? I'd see if they provide any wipes if she uses those. Then go from there.

  • That's just gross. Why would you leave your milk on the table and cover it with a magazine? I think you are doing the right thing. If it happens again, I would complain to HR. That's not sanitary.

I know, it's in a bathroom with ample supply of paper towels (it's actually filled twice a day).

My husband wanted me to leave a note for her....

  • Could you take in a big stack of paper towels for her to use?  Also, wipes are a good idea.  That is really disappointing that she's not cleaning up after herself.

I had this same situation. I just don't get how people can NOT clean up after themselves. Leave a passive aggressive post it.

  • She needs a swift kick in the box.

But HR is probably the better plan.

  • I've never worked in an environment like this, so maybe I'm wrong, but if she's the only other one who uses the room, won't it be quite clear you're going to HR about her specifically? If I were her, I'd rather get a heads up before someone went to my employer.

Could you bring your own wipes in and put a decorative label on them that invites "everyone" to use them?  Something that appears helpful rather than passive aggressive?

I agree with Stoney about talking to her. Is it possible that she doesn't realize that things are dripping? I remember being surprised at how many milk drops I created. But if you would rather go to HR, maybe they (or you) could just put up a friendly "Please make sure to wipe up any spilled milk!" sign.
I gave her the benefit of the doubt when I would find a drop here or there.

But there's a magazine on the corner of the fridge, one day it was moved and I moved it back so I would have space and was surprised to find a nice sized spill under it...

I haven't complained about her to HR, yet.  I just requested that they provide some wipes.  As much as I wouldn't mind bringing in wipes for just me, I don't want to leave a container for the public to use (we have 150-200 people that use this building).

I understood what you were saying..guess I worded it wrong.  Just saying, why would she cover it with a magazine instead of grabbing a paper towel? Sheer laziness, I guess.

  • I agree  with the sign thing.  I do feel like it would be awkward to just confront her and be like, "So I found your spilled breastmilk on the table..."  lol

My thoughts exactly. Even if you're in a hurry, it's right in a bathroom with paper towels and toilet paper right there.

  • If she is lazy enough to cover a spill w/ a magazine I doubt that any type of post-its would work.  I think if HR can be persuaded to put some paper towels and/or wipes in there she may use them.
  • Does your employer provide any kind of cleaning supplies at all? I know where I used to work they had cleaning supplies in common areas that anyone could grab to clean up messes......if they do, maybe snag a thing of cleaner and store it by the magazines.

  • If only you and one other person are useing the room, I think you could easily take some disposable wipes and make a cute sign that says " don't cry over spilt milk..... Wipe if up." And see how long they last. If they are gone super quick, you may need to ask your hr to supply them. But if they stick around for a while, and things are kept cleaner it may be worth it to just bring the wipes on your dime. I know you can get target brand baby wipes three packages for five dollars. It may save you both a lot of undue stress.
