Trying to Get Pregnant

pap smear and ttc

I will probably get made fun of, but here I go... will getting a pap smear done right before I'm scheduled to ovulate cause any issues in terms of conceiving? I wouldn't think so; then again my mind won't quit thinking about it. I couldn't find anything online. Thanks in advance!

My only thought was the lube as well. Probably not good for conception but the whole cycle won't be a wash.

Well the lube they use with the speculum probably isn't sperm friendly. But if you're getting it done a few days before o it shouldn't be a problem.
Every doctor I've had has used surgi-glide or whatever it's called. As far as I'm aware it's sperm friendly.

ETA: Google is telling me it's probably surgilube.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.
  • Thanks for your help ladies.
  • It should be perfectly fine.

  • Also, my OB warms the speculums in a warming drawer & uses warm lube. It's like luxury for my vag. :P

  • My doctor has never given instructions about how far ahead of a pap to abstain. But even if the prohibition is 24-48 hours before, sex EOD is more than adequate for TTC purposes, so you will still be able to hit your window. As far as whether a pap can actually hinder ovulation, come on OP - if penis-hitting-cervix action doesn't do anything, what on earth about a pap could cause issues? I've come out of a vigorous sex session way more sore than any pap has ever left me, I can't imagine what kind of paps you've been having that you think they could be harmful in any way?

  • Ugh. More damage is done when DH forgets to trim his damn nails, I'm sure.

I've had lubed up speculums for all of my PAPs, couldn't imagine without it :/

Um. I'm not 100 % sure what you're saying here but it sounds disturbing. And painful. And an infection hazard. No thanks.

I think I just felt my vag cringe.

Is this why we're supposed to always use lube all the time ever even if we don't think we need it? To protect against nasty fingernail knives?
