Trouble TTC

Femara

Hello everyone! My husband and I have been TTC for almost 2 years with no BFP. We have done clomid 2 separate times (August 2012 and April 2014) for 4 cycles a piece. I also had a HSG testing that showed no blockages or abnormalities and my husbands test came back normal. So as of right now they consider my infertility unexplained. My cycle lengths vary bc I wasn't always ovulating but the clomid did help with that.

This is my first month with Femara, cycle day 16 and my temp has risen so I do believe today was ovulation day

Im looking for any stories that you may have about Femara.

I'm on my third cycle with femara. I always take it from CD3-7 though, but I generally ovulate around day 14, so maybe that's why?
And I definitely second the u/s monitoring. I've had different responses with each cycle, even though it's the same dosage. My first one I had 2 follicles on CD 9 (19 & 20 mm), last cycle I had one at 23mm on CD 11, and today (also CD 11) I had 1 at 13mm.

  • I was thrilled my RE prescribed Femara instead of Clomid (I O monthly anyways but he thought it would help with multiple follies, stronger O, and stronger luteal phase).

The effects were mild (hot flashes first half of the cycle were pretty much it), which was a relief.

I always O somewhat late (usually CD16-19ish) and Femara was supposed to speed that up, but it didn't - I O'ed CD18. My ovaries still acted very PCOS-y, and the lead follie on the left disappeared while a small one on the right overtook it and matured. It was kind of strange.

If you've had 8 treatment cycles where you've O'ed successfully, it's really surprising that your doctor hasn't recommended IUI? Because they can circumvent cervical issues (we thought we were just MFI, then found I have cervical stenosis and and IUI catheter can't even get to my uterus, so probably the sperm were seriously blocked and I may also have endometriosis as a result causing problems with fertility as well).

So if you don't get your BFP this cycle, perhaps ask about IUI?

I've never explored IUI before. My doctor is not monitoring with U/S. I have an appt next month with him if the femara doesn't result in a BFP ... we started back with a new doctor who is more proactive than my previous, trying again in April of this year. But I now am trying to do as much research as I possible can.
  • I'm on my 5th round of Femara and I'm not being monitored despite the fact that my treatment is being administered by an RE. It sounds like that's not typical. When do others on Femara go in for monitoring? I'm just wondering what I should be asking for.
