Toddlers: 24 Months+

concerned about my child's Toddler bed.

I just bought my 27 month old a toddler bed. It is plastic/metal Dora the explorer made by Delta. I put it together and underneath the matress there is a fabric mattress support; under that mattress support there is a metal cross bar. I was able to put my arm between the fabric mattress supporter and the bar and realized that a toddler could potentially stick her head between these 2 parts and get stuck. So I contacted the company who said it met all the necessary standards, etc. but they will review my concerns. So I am returning the bed.

Is there anyone out there who feels like they have an extremely safe toddler bed free from all safety hazards??  If so can you please tell me I would like to buy one.  Also if anyone owns one of these Delta beds take a look at what I'm talking about, maybe I'm just paranoid?

  • Ditto the twin.  Unless your crib converts there is no reason to buy a toddler bed.

Also, my mom has a Jake and the Neverland Pirates toddler bed at her house my kids use that is probably the same bed.  They've slept, played, bounced on it and had no issues,

  • I'm a big fan of IKEA beds. We love our crib that converted to a bed, will probably get a twin bed frame from IKEA in the future. They seem really solid and well built.

Okay, I will check out Ikea twin beds.  Do you think it's okay to let her sleep on a twin mattress on the floor until she gets a bed?

My DS has been on a twin mattress on the floor since we transitioned him to his own bed at age 2. :) Works great for him! We're looking into getting him a bed frame from ikea too.

My daughter (and I) has slept on a mattress on the floor for the past three years.  She doesn't even want her bed frame right now.

Awesome, you guys are making me feel better about this.  She has been sleeping with me on a mattress on the floor since she was 18 months old and started climbing out of her crib. But now I have another baby who is in the crib in the same room and it's just too much. But I get anxious when I think of her in a bedroom all alone wandering around. I think my husband will end up sleeping in there with her until I feel comfortable.

  • another twin mattress on the floor family here.  Looks like crap but I'm past caring. Plus it isn't uncommon that I'll find DD half off the mattress so this is best, for now.
  • We had a delta crib that converted to a toddler bed. It was great and we felt very safe. We recently upgraded to a twin bed and our dd is actually MUCH happier with that than the toddler bed she had. More room to roll around and sprawl out.

Her bed is on rails but her boxspring is only 2 inches, then the mattress on that. Its not much higher than the toddler bed. Maybe just a couple inches.

Do you leave the room before she's fully asleep? I'm afraid of my DD wandering around too so I just sit with her until she's 100% conked out. She had learned that when she wakes up to come straight to my room and get me up for her breakfast. But before she learned that I kept the baby monitor in there and I knew as soon as she was awake, because she'd play with toys or sing to herself.

I don't know, but I just ordered a video monitor and a new gate...the current gate she knows how to open. It is going to be very different than her current sleeping arrangement. I have a twin mattress on the floor, toddler mattress on the floor and one of those foam open up toddler chairs. So the gate should come tomorrow and then I have no more excuses.

Also I took out her dresser because she would open all the drawers and I was worried about tipping. I know you can bolt it to the wall, but she also pulls all of her clothes out. I'll add furniture when I feel she's ready.

She is very happy in her room, sleeping on her twin mattress on the floor. I should have done this months ago.
