A post NOT about infertility or even kids

Watching the cooking network on Saturday, I learned you should not refrigerate tomatoes. Apparently the hold their flavor & last longer at room temperature on the counter. Did you know this? This applies to any produce- if it is not refrigerated at the store, don't refrigerate it at home. Blew my mind- I never knew this.

Also, random, how many times do you wear blue jeans before washing them? Depending on where I wear them too, maybe 2 wears then wash. I know people who wear them 3-4 times before washing.

My History:
Lots of BFN's & failed IUI's w/clomid and/or femara
Finally BFP with femara & t.i.- son born 6/17/2010
Started TTC again around when DS was 3ish
Lots of BFN's with femara & t.i & ovidrel
Tubes clear, S.A came back low motility but high count
About to switch to injectables w/femara, did one last cycle with just femara & an IUI with ovidrel- stupid motility was fantastic in the sample, but count was 700,000 AFTER wash! Had to sign a paper to even still do IUI- BFFP (big fat freaking positive) Go figure!

Re: A post NOT about infertility or even kids

  • I have tomato plants that are going crazy right now and I've been picking the fruit when the tomatoes are just turning orange because the rain here in FL will split them if they ripen more and are left on the vines.  Anyway, I let them ripen on the counter and I often eat them before they make their way to the fridge... didn't know I was doing the right thing by accident!  :)

I typically wear my jeans 2x before washing.  That said my husband only had two pairs of jeans from last week total in the wash.  I think that is just gross.  I mean, as I said, we live in FL.  It is hot here.  I mean, REALLY hot, and HUMID.  Blech.

  • I'd heard the same thing about watermelon but didn't know it applied to all produce.  However, I do tend to keep it however the store had it.  So I guess I was inadvertently following this rule.

Regarding jeans, I don't even know.  I will wear them till they stop fitting right or are noticeable dirty.  Unless it's one of my nicer pairs or jeans, then I tend to wash every wear.  It depends on the time of year and what I've done while wearying them.

  • I actually did know that about tomatoes. I think it's best to keep them in a brown paper bag on the counter, instead of the plastic produce bags, or out completely open. Same goes with peaches, avocados, etc. If you buy the little cherry or grape tomatoes in the package it will tell you on the package not to refrigerate as well.

I wear my jeans until they stretch out too much, which depending on the pair is anywhere from one wear to maybe three if I'm lucky.

  • I don't follow that in the summer and only sometimes in the winter, I find that produce lasts much longer in the fridge in the summer. It just gets too hot in our kitchen which receives direct sunlight.  So even when the A/C is on, it is warm. And the grocery store is never near that warm. I also grocery shop every other day so we rarely have anything for very long. I do have a small fruit bowl that is out of the sun that we keep stuff in that is easily reachable for DS and I'll also normally throw avocados in there to ripen as we eat tons of those.

I wear jeans probably 2-3 times. I change my clothes a few times a day for various activities so am never in them that long.

I did know that about tomatoes, but I only refrigerate store bought ones.  Home-grown ones go straight in my belly... or on the counter :)  I guess I just hate the gnats that come with veggies on the counter.

As for jeans, I'm a 2-3 times girl before I'll wash them, unless my kid smears something all over them.
Can I say ditto to all of this? I have always grown tomatoes at home. They only hit the fridge when they start to turn and I need to keep them for an extra day.

  • I did know about the produce thing, I think it applies to onions, tomatoes, avocados, mangos and other whole fruits. I have bowl on top of the refrigerator that I put them in and hopefully eat straight from there, but if they are getting too ripe I put them in the fridge as that will help keep them a little longer.
As far as jeans go I pretty much wear them until they loose their shape which is usually 2-3 times.

  • I did know about the produce thing too - we have fruit/veggie bowls all over the kitchen/dining room because we eat a ton of it. It's hard because it goes bad so fast when it's left out, but it really does change the taste to refrigerate it.

I wear jeans 1-3 times. I'm always getting dirty or DD is wiping stuff on me. If they're still clean I'll toss them back in the closet for another wear or two.
