Provera & Clomid [BFP DRIVE BY WARNING]

I have recently been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome after blood tests revealing that I have higher testosterone levels than normal and an ultrasound showing that I had a bunch of little cysts on each ovary. My Dr decided to perscribe me Provera since I was not having a period at all since I had been off birth control almost 8 months. I took the first round of Provera and had a period but nothing happened after that. two months later my doctor perscribed me another round of Provera to once again kick start my cycle. Along with this she also prescribed me Clomid. It was just a low dosage to initiate ovulation for now so we could see what happened. I started my cycle June 30 and started taking the Clomid on day 5 of my cycle. I finished on day 10 and have been monitoring ovulation with an OPK. Today I received a blinking smiley face!!!! My husband and I have been having intercouse every other day since I finished the Clomid. We just did last night so we will wait until tomorrow night to have intercourse again since they say to wait and go every other day. I am so hoping we can conceive this time. We are so ready for a baby. I know people keep telling us oh it will come in time just be patient, but I dont feel like they understand that with PCOS just being patient isnt always enough. So here is to hoping every other day will work!!!

Sorry about your diagnosis. I wish you the best for this cycle.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you have not had a sperm analysis (in which case timing BD is really just a shot in the dark - daily, every other day, waiting 2-3 days and then IUI - who knows what would have a good chance without knowing the numbers?).

It also sounds like you have not have an HSG - not a good idea to fill your body with meds that have strong effects and can only be used a limited number of months for safety (usually up to 6), if it turns out you have a blocked tube or tubes, or any growths in the uterus that can interfere with implanation.

It also sounds like you have not received monitoring (that does not mean OPKs...those can't let you know if ovulation actually happened, and Clomid can easily cause false positive OPK results, often for days and days). Here is what can happen without actual monitoring (regular ultrasounds - CD3 or so, then CD11-12 or so depending on your typical ovulation, then every 2-3 days until ovulation occurs):

• Thinning of the uterine lining (which can happen the first cycle, or be cumulative) to the point that implantation cannot occur.
• Growth of cysts that can painfully/dangerously rupture, cause ovarian torsion which can cause the loss of an ovary, and/or which can produce estrogens and act as birth control interfering with the ability of meds to stimulate ovulation.
• Development of too many follicles, which can lead to painful, dangerous Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome.
• Lack of knowledge on how exactly your body responds to that dosage of Clomid, which reduces the chances that treatment protocols for subsequent months are the most effective for your body.
• MOST IMPORTANT: No knowledge of how many mature follicles have the potential to release an egg, fertilize, and implant, which can lead to higher order multiples (triplets and higher can be extremely danger to both mother and babies).

If this cycle is not a BFP, please please please see an RE or at the very least demand basic testing and monitoring for your own safety and that of potential children and your future reproductive health.

Be careful with clomid if you are already having troubles with small cysts! My cousin had the same issues and did provera with clomid. The first month nothing. The second month she did 50mg of clomid and ended up with a ruptured cyst and six months later her and her H are still benched! I'm assuming your being monitored by a RE?

I can relate, I too have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I've been on two rounds of Provera and Clomid. I still can't get a period. I have to call my doctor . I wish all this luck the month.

BFP warning: 

I have forgotten to update this thread, but after we went through my husband's sperm analysis, transvaginal and pelvic ultrasounds, a round of just provera, another round of provera followed by two rounds of 50mg of Clomid we are expecting our bundle in May 2015! Thank you ladies for all of your support. My doctor has been great and said everything is looking great so far. I pray for the best for each and every one of you in your adventures in ttc.

I apologize for that. I just wanted to give the ladies who had posted an update and hopefully some encouragement. I know things don't always come out like I want them to and I apologize for that part profusely. I don't get to post often due to my two jobs. I do hope and pray for each and every one of you that you will someday be able to conceive. I didn't think when I posted the update earlier praying for each of you ❤️
