****Born to Run****

I think this was missing last week, so let's catch up.

How were your runs the past two weeks? Did you get out there as much as you wanted? Were you able to reach your distance/time goals?

GTKY - What is your goal for this week? We'll check in next week to see how everyone did!

I didn't do a ton of running last week, just M, and W, bc we were heading out of town. I ran M, W, F the previous week.  I did one crazy "let's just keep going" run that was around 2 miles, the rest were around 1.5. Times were decent, but on the slower side (probably due to my dog).

My goal is to do a longer run and not suck or get discouraged. It's easy to forget that even though I ran 4 half marathons, I'm not still in shape for one so it's ok to run 3 miles.

  • @joy2611 I understand ya on the heat! It's way too hot in the afternoons and once the sun is fully up in the mornings. I end up going around 6, but I'm a morning person anyways. Anywhere you can get on a treadmill for some training?

  • Ugh it has just been SO. EFFING. HOT. here...i run at 5:30am and it's still almost 80 degrees.  i haven't been able to convince myself to do 3x week since before my wedding (May 31).  I think it's because i've always had a Half to be training for over the past 2 years, and now i haven't signed up for anything because i'm TTC and i don't want to think about running a Half when i'm in my first tri and possibly ill, etc.

There is a Half here in early October, and another one in early November, so I may just sign up for one of those to make myself get in gear.  My runs are just sluggish now...it's as if my body is like "you're not actively training for anything, so how about we run 1-2 minutes/mile behind our normal pace for a while?"  Sigh.

My last race was at the end of February...but it was a good one!  I did the Glass Slipper Challenge at Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend (which is a 10k on Saturday followed by the Half on Sunday).  So at least if i don't get another race in before i get KU, i ended with a good one, and a PR!

Hoping to get at least 8-10 miles in this week...but that will probably only be two runs instead of three.  I get behind on the weekends now because i don't want to wake up at early on my days off, and it's almost unbearable if you try to leave the house after 9am.

  • I fell off the wagon for a few weeks while I was on vacation, but got back into it last week. I did three runs, including this morning. The first two were horrible! I was so tired and really wanted to quit. Today was much better. I hope that means I'm back on track.

As for the next week, goal is three runs and two strength days. I've been skipping strength days lately which isn't good.

Happy to see this thread first of all! :)  Runs over the past two weeks were only okay.  Had lots of added stress in the last two weeks - I quit my job, so doing transition over that time period was crazy.  I ran, but not as much as I wanted to.  I think I had 2x each week and I usually try to hit 3-4 times a week.  Definitely didn't hit my distance goal.

This week though is a reset.  I ran 4 miles yesterday, not such a great pace, but I did it.  It was humid as hell yesterday plus we went out drinking on Saturday night (hangover running is rough). My goal for this week is to run at least 15 miles.  We're headed to Puerto Rico on Thursday, so I also hope to get a short run in on the beach!
  • @budders12 That is a great goal! Which half are you planning to run?

NSAnderson0313 Sorry to hear about your job. I hope your running gives you a little stress relief, and running on the beach - epic!!

@babycowbell I skip gym time a lot as well. It DOES make a difference when I work out regularly though. Good luck getting in there!

slappalicious Congrats on your 4th of July 5k! Running at night is super fun! I did a race once that handed out glowsticks and stuff.. it was great. Jogging is definitely safer though.. it's hard to see bumps in the road!

packerfan4life and everyone else who got out there this morning! Keep up the great running everyone!

  • @epidemic - no need to be sorry, I left on my own free will.  Great decision for me; I was traveling 100% of the time which made TTC even more difficult.  I've decided to take on something locally, but don't start at the new place for a bit.  Running on the beach will definitely be epic, looking forward to it! AND as a military dependent I must say thank you for your service, hopefully you get a BFP soon and don't have to go TDY.

I didn't get out nearly as much as I would like, did three 5km.

For this week I would like to get out at least 4 times!

ETA: just super excited to be running again!!

    Proudly on the dark side

  • I try and do at least 3-4 miles a day M-F. I did pretty good of getting in my daily runs last week and have started this week off on the right foot. I haven't signed up for any races so that leaves me unmotivated to squeeze in a long run. My last race was the Florida Keys Ragnar relay in February(I did just a little over 20 miles of it) Now that my kiddos are out if school I hit the gym so the heat isn't a factor but the treadmill is so damn boring. DH and I are thinking of doing the Vino and the beasts next month in the NY FLX.

  • So jealous of all you runners!

I've been in training for a half marathon that's at the end of August but hurt myself in the middle of June. Went to an orthopedic last week Thursday and they said I have a grade 2 calf strain. Could take 4-6 weeks to heal so running is just out of the question right now.

  • I didn't get to ruin all week due to rain. I did get out this weekend. I did 4 miles Saturday and again on Sunday. I did much better on Sunday because I waited for it to cool down before I took my run. I hope to go today after my hair appt.
  • @joy2611, I'm bummed they don't give medals for the 8k, that's one of my favorite distances.  Maybe because they're not as common as 5ks and 10ks.

@slappalicious - I've done a couple night 5ks.  They're fun.  The weather is usually cooler, and you're not tired from getting up first thing in the morning.  For some reason my energy is better too, maybe because I can fuel throughout the day?

How were your runs the past two weeks? Did you get out there as much as you wanted? Were you able to reach your distance/time goals?

My runs have been. . . consistent.  I've gotten out there plenty, but not for as long as I would have liked.  I need to push myself more in distance I think.  But I just changed up my playlist, so hopefully that helps.

GTKY - What is your goal for this week? We'll check in next week to see how everyone did!
Ideally I'd like to get in another 26 miles this week.  But I don't think that's likely because that's over 5 miles a day and lately I've been pushing to get to 3 miles!

  • I used to run, but my knees started to hurt from crappy asics. Got new kicks and joined an athletic based training group (no joke; it's called ABT lol). It's test week and legs day- should be an enjoyable evening! :-S
