crib rail covers

I know that bumpers are a no no.  But does anyone know if it is safe to use cloth crib rail covers for the top of the crib rails?  I have tried to research it but I have not gotten much information.  To me they do not seem like a hazard.  DS has started to chew on his crib rails.  I don't want them to get ruined and eating the finish can't be good for him.

I have been wondering the same so I will be following this post. She's already made a bunch of marks on one of the sides..

Us too! There is a favourite spot at one end where he likes to chew. I have been looking but no luck yet.

We may need to look into something. I've seen brown paint chips around her mouth, too.
