Healing ear piercing - how long to wait to TTC?

Hi all, I'm new (been a lurker for while)!!

I've been searching online for the answer to this question and haven't been able to find anything to address it. I had my ears pierced a few weeks ago (1 cartilage, 2 lobes). I've had no problems with infection so far, but I'm wondering how long we should wait before it's safe to TTC?  The only info. I've found online is about belly button piercings.

  • There is a lot of info. about not getting piercings if you are already pregnant. But I can't find anything about how long to wait to TTC once you already have piercings. Thanks. :)

In what way, shape or form would having a new piercing impact your TTC abilities??? I mean, what's gonna happen if you get a stomach bug or a cold, or gosh golly, skin your knee while TTC?! Omigosh... the horror of it all!

Lol! Okay, I guess I'm worrying too much? Tehe! I guess I was just thinking it wouldn't be good if it got infected while I was pregnant, since the infection could possibly pass to the baby (if I got pregnant right away).

  • I didn't realize this was such an absurd question! :)

Piercing shops will not do piercings on pregnant women because of the risk of infection (and their own liability, I assume).  So I figured there would be recommendations about how long to let it heal before TTC.

  • If you were to have an infection so severe that you became septic and it effected the baby, you would probably have much bigger problems than just the infection getting to your baby, as in kidney failure and other organ failure, especially early in fetal development.

  • There is a virus called  cytomegalovirus  which can infect a fetus in utero, but this virus has been contracted by about 50% of adults, and I doubt you would get it from a piercing. Sperm banks screen for it, and my soon-to-be ex-wife had not contracted it, so we bought sperm from donors who also had not contracted it (you can buy sperm from donors who have contracted it if you have also contracted it since you have the anti-bodies in your system). There's also chicken pox, but you probably won't get that from a piercing either.  So your probably good to go...I wish you the best on your journey :)
  • Are you sure you're a lurker..?  I have trouble believing anyone who's spent some serious time on these boards would ask a question like this.

  • ummm.... really?

    is this a joke?

    it has to be!

  • Woooow. Of all of the ridiculous questions I've seen asked over the years here, this one has to take the cake. You should probably do a lot more reading up on your body and pregnancy before you start TTC :-S -goes back to lurking-
