Jogging

I've been walking all summer long. I think I'm ready to start jogging.

My friend (childless) claims that you can jog with a regular stroller. I tried just for a few feet, and I'm thinking she isn't right. I did a google search, and it seems to confirm my theory...lol

Is it correct that it is not safe to jog with a regular stroller. Also I found this used jogging stroller for sale for $50. I will PIP below. They claim it is in good condition. Is this stroller any good. We deft can't afford a new stroller.

TIA

Re: Jogging

  • I wouldn't jog with regular stroller since those plastic wheels can get stuck. Google the stroller listed to read reviews. I have a graco jogger (though I don't jog) because we are in grass and dirt often.
And kudos to you for jogging. I keep saying I'm going to walk every morning since we live on a long cul-de-sac, but I make it to the garden to water and then I'm ready for AC.

  • Brand new jogger stroller is $109 (that brand). Most of the reviews say it's ok on short distances (under 3 miles) due to lack of shock absorbers and lack of seat padding for the baby. One review mentioned there is an issue with the front wheel not being straight so it's impossible to use as a jogger.
  • I have a Baby Trend Stroller and do not enjoy jogging with baby in tow. It slows you down and I feel like it's much harder. It's a nice stroller to use for everyday use and on other terrains, but I don't like it for jogging.

  • I have the Baby Trend Liberty. I have had no problems with it. Yeah it might slow me down a little, but for the price I don't see it as a big deal. Thatcher loves it and I think it's a great jogging stroller.

  • I personally would rather not jog with a stroller at all. It really messes up your form and, for me, leads to injury.

I would suggest checking out whatever you are thinking about getting first and making sure you don't have to lean or hunch to push it, you don't want to restrict your lung capacity. And see if the handle is far enough from the stroller to be able to push while running and not hit the back of the stroller with your toes, while standing up straight.

We have a different Baby Trend jogger - the one with the MP3 player. I love it. We even bought a boogie board to add onto it for DD1. It has the option of fixing the front wheel for jogging or allowing it to swivel when walking.

Jogging with a stroller is just different than jogging by yourself. My brother is a runner but he thinks anyone jogging with a stroller (mostly women in his neighborhood) is badass. It's just a very different workout.

I agree with NRyan though. Try it out if it's in your price range and resell it for the same if it doesn't work out for you. That said, make sure the price and condition are right for re-sale.
  • Good luck. Deft check it out and push it a bit. If you are short like me, some jogging strollers aren't adjustable and have the bar set too high. Also, you can look up tips for jogging with a stroller. And just go slow as you adjust to running with the stroller to prevent injury. I do like our jogger just for using on rougher terrain at a bare minimum.
