Hello there

Having some cramping. Am I pregnant? Totally effing with you all.
I'm hoping to find a good comfy spot here for a (hopefully short) bit. I belonged to the July 14 BMB and really bonded with those ladies. My baby girl Madeleine was born at 36 weeks on June 5th and lived for 4 days with Trisomy 18. We learned of her diagnosis in Feb, and while it was the most devastating news, we have really been waiting since then for an opportunity to try again.
Since her passing I've joined the loss board. It's helpful to converse with people who are also grieving, but I need something to look forward to. I miss the happy/snarky posts. I want to be able to feel excitement and to feel a sense of normalcy. I think my involvement in the TTCAL board will really help.
Before Madeleine, we had an early miscarriage then a chemical pregnancy. My midwife has been through all of it with me and wants me to discuss testing/prevention options with the OB before trying. I have my 6 week post partem appt with my midwife tomorrow, and I'm hoping she'll clear us to TTC if we are comfortable. The genetic counselor told us that we wouldn't need to do any further testing with this diagnosis, so I don't know what my OB would recommend. It'll be interesting to hear.
Anyway, I'm very sorry you are all here because I know all too well how heartbreaking loss is, and the cloud it casts over future pregnancies for some of us. Hoping to get to know you as we hope for our future healthy and uneventful pregnancies!
Re: Intro (loss mentioned)
Welcome to the board- I'm sorry for your losses. The Loss board ladies are wonderful but I totally understand needing a place that helps you to look forward too. I hope you find that here.
If you don't mind me asking, what testing has been done for your losses so far? Since many early miscarriages are thought to be chromosomal and your sweet Madeleine was as well, I wasn't sure if they'd already done any testing to see if there were any medical factors to be addressed before TTC again?

Not much help I'm afraid, just wanted to be sure that your medical team was taking everything into consideration, which it sounds like they are. I had a fluke loss as well followed by another loss that is still TBD, so I definitely understand the wonder of if there is a connection. Good luck with your OB appointment and getting the all clear!

My Chart
My Ovulation Chart
We are having a lot of testing done, however, everyone's situation is different. Both of my losses were in 2nd tri and we'd had a genetic test done for typical prenatal chromosomal abnormalities and they were found to be at miniscule risk, so based on those factors, my OB recommended various tests. We've done karyotyping on both my husband and I, I had blood drawn in the hospital for some tests to go along with autopsy and I will be going back in a few weeks to have blood drawn for an in depth thrombolytic (clotting) test. Once we get all of those results, I will be referred to a MFM (high risk OB) for any additional tests they may deem necessary, to make a plan for TTC and if I get pregnant again.
As I mentioned though, everyone's case is different. 2nd/3rd tri losses are more rare and having had a successful pregnancy just a couple of years before that made them even more curious. While the first was found to be a cord accident and determined a fluke, having a second 2nd tri loss sent red flags to my OB and she felt that there was too much risk for something happening again if we didn't look into it. We want to have as much information as possible to help us make our next decision.
You have to be your own advocate, no matter what, so you could always get a second opinion if you're unsure depending on what your OB says tomorrow. Just depends on what you feel most comfortable with.
