Trouble TTC

Hi there! I'm new (Intro)

Hi ladies, I'd like to introduce myself to you all. I'm B, and I'm new to the 3T journey and to this board. Here's a little background...

My husband (35) and I (27) got married last July (our anniversary is in two weeks!) and started having unprotected sex right away. Come November, we decided to step up our game and I began temping, charting, using OPK's, and having sex at least every other day (but usually every day) in my fertile window. I also tried pretty much every "trick" in the book... pineapple cores, Mucinex, you name it! Needless to say, after 8 cycles of all of that, I still wasn't pregnant. My OB/GYN, who is great, promptly referred me to an RE.

We had our first appointment at the beginning of this past week, and really like our new doctor. He sent me for blood work and an HSG, which I just had on Friday. The test showed dye moving through my left tube with no problems, but my right tube didn't fill up at all. I'm going for an ultrasound tomorrow (which will be CD 12 for me) and my DH is dropping off his semen sample for analysis.

****pregnancies/children mentioned (not mine)****

I honestly can't really describe how I feel about all of this. I know we are just at the beginning of the journey, but the whole thing has me feeling depressed and also a little angry. From reading some threads on here, I know that I'm not alone in this, but it feels like everyone is getting pregnant at the drop of a hat while we are silently struggling. Those whom I've told have given me the old, "if you just stop trying it will happen!" and "when it's meant to be it will be!" which to me imply that it's either my fault for trying to hard, or that God or whatever power is out there doesn't think I should be a Mommy yet. Neither of those ideas are too comforting.

I'm sorry that all of you have to be here, and I hope to see LOTS of BFP's during my time here. Thank you for taking the time to read my intro.

  • Thank you ladies for the kind words and warm welcome! Although I wasn't happy about the apparent blocked tube, I am glad to be moving through the testing phase pretty quickly, and I do think I will feel some relief once we have a plan. The doctor said he would meet with us late this week/early the following week to discuss all the results of the HSG, blood tests, ultrasound, and SA. I'm hopeful that whatever plan he recommends, we can start next cycle!

Good luck to all of you, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better over the next few weeks!

  • Welcome to the board!  Sorry you find yourself here, but hopefully you won't have to stay very long.

Don't let your loved ones make you feel bad about this.  I've come to realize that people just don't know a lot about IF and therefore don't understand how hurtful their comments can be.  I get the same comments from my friends and family all the time even now, 4 years after we started trying.  I think they're all just uncomfortable and don't know what to say and so they say the first thing that comes to min d, no matter how unhelpful it is.

GL to you on DH's SA!!  FX that you get a BFP very soon.

  • Welcome.  Good luck with the rest of your testing.  I hope that things turn out as well as possible and at the very least that you get some answers and some direction for next steps.  It is hard when people give well meaning advice.  I try to just brush it off, but I'm getting less and less good at that now that we've moved to IVF.  We are a same sex couple using donor sperm...very clearly, my body is the problem, not the sperm.  I have started saying exactly that in response to people who have offered either their own sperm or that of others, or to people who tell me to get drunk and have a one night stand.  Some people don't get it (fertility issues) at all, and they should consider themselves lucky.

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

  • Welcome to the board! I just joined recently, and I have to say that everyone is so welcoming, helpful, and friendly. You're in good company.

Feeling depressed and angry I think is all (unfortunately) part of the process. I know that it's definitely been a roller coaster for me. The good news is that you're seeing a specialist, have a great support system of ladies here, and can start creating a plan of action now that you have information to work with from the HSG.

Whenever I start feeling that everyone is getting pregnant around me and that it seems so easy for everyone, I just remind myself that it isn't necessarily. I don't know if they've secretly struggled with IF that I don't know about. I'm a pretty private person myself -- I haven't really told anyone that we're going through treatment (other than DH obviously). So, I imagine that when the BFP day comes, it might seem to outsiders that it was easy for us and that we weren't even trying.

  • Thanks so much ladies! I'm sorry to hear that several of you have dealt with the insensitivities as well. @StacyLH24‌ I can't even believe someone would suggest a one-night stand! I guess maybe people think they are trying to be helpful, but are actually being extremely rude and hurtful.

Anyway, I had my ultrasound today (CD 12) and had a 20.5 mm follicle on my right ovary. I've been having pains on that side since yesterday and got a positive OPK this morning so that wasn't too much of a surprise. I don't have much hope this cycle because of the right tube results on the HSG, but we'll have sex anyway-- might as well, even if it's a shot in the dark! Our consult to follow up on all the testing isn't until a week from tomorrow, which feels like forever to me. I'm really going to have to learn some patience for this process!

Thanks again for all of your welcoming words, and good luck to everyone!

  • I'm sorry you have to be here, but welcome.  It can be so difficult when others have been having no issues conceiving but you are.  But you are not alone.  The ladies on this board have been so welcoming, supportive and kind.  There is no "It will happen when its meant to be" talk here.  Everyone tries to give suggestions about what to do next.  I hope you find comfort in this board.

It sounds like you are on your way to finding out exactly what is keeping you from conceiving so you can get a plan in place.  It is a lot of waiting, but all the testing will hopefully give you answers and the best chances of having a LO soon.
