Disabled Daddies?

Does anyone out there have a partner with a disability? My husband has a mild case of Cerebral Palsy, and he's looking for support. Any tips or resources would be immensely appreciated!

Re: Disabled Daddies?

  • I got hit by an IED (improvised explosive device) which made me have short term memory loss and caught shrapnel in both arms but mostly in my legs. My memory affects our relationship the most because I'm always asked to get stuff but don't get it. So to help with the memory loss i set reminders on my phone that go off several times before I need to go somewhere or do something. Before I leave or walk into any building I double check to make sure I have everything and go down a list of things I need. Biggest thing that helps me is my wife doesn't baby me just because I have these issues. She still expects everything out of me if I didn't have these conditions. Another thing that effects our relationship expecially our relationship with other people is that I have PTSD. So we avoid large crowds and we always sit in the corner of a restruant with my back to the wall so I can see everyone. I was reluctant to say PTSD when your asking about disabilities because I HATE it when people say it's a fucking mental illness or a disability because it's not. It's called being normal if someone doesn't have it that has gone through combat then there's something mentally wrong with them. However, it is something that effects our relationship daily.
