step stool for bathroom?

My DD is 18 months and 32 inches tall and is starting to brush her own teeth.  We might even pt soon.  The bathroom she will use is small and we all use it during the day, so it would be better if the stool was reasonably moved or thin or at least not something you find yourself tripping on all the time.  A quick glance on Amazon reveals Elmo and similar stools--but I'm not sure she'll like Elmo when she is 5 and still cannot reach the sink.  Some small stools seem like they wouldn't work because they are too short.  There are a few cute 2 step wood ones, but the prices are ~$80.  There are some folding ones, but then the reviewers are like, "my toddler had to go to the ER when this collapsed."  Do you have one you like?

Re: step stool for bathroom?

  • I got mine at Walmart....its not too bulky. That was my biggest concern cause we have one bathroom and its small. So I needed a small stool and its got grips on it so there's no slips. Its made by Graco. Its also light weight enough that my DS can move it around himself.....since he's two and wants to be independent now! Lol. It doesn't fold up but I just make the best out of it and use it to set my son's bucket of bath toys on when it's not in use!

We have 2 of these and love them.  Sturdy, foldable, and tall enough that both my 17 month old and 33 month old are able to brush their teeth at the sink.  I knew a single step one wasn't going to cut it. Oh and they can both stand on it together because it's wide enough.

I have this one too and it is perfect for my 2 year old (since 23 months) to reach the kitchen sink.

For our bathroom I also have a folding one similar to Kikkerland Rhino Easy Fold Step Stool, Short, Black which is more suitable for the bathroom height counter.

Love them both but as for ER visits, well I wouldn't let my kid used them unsupervised (not that these parents did) and I feel both are very sturdy.  Also, DD seems to LOVE stepping up on them which is great incentive to get her to wash up.

I must be a weirdo because I just got boring, old, dark gray utility step stools by Rubbermaid. They are not the prettiest but they do the job. And they don't distract DD while peeing on the potty. DH got her a super cool wooden puzzle stool with her name on it, and every time we used the bathroom she wanted to play with the letters instead of focusing on peeing.

As for space, if you're short on it, just stick the stool in the bathtub or shower when not using it.
  • We have a Squatty Potty for the toilet and a folding stool for the sink because we have a small bathroom. The Squatty potty tucks in around the toilet and the folding stool slides next to the sink.

  • I have the ikea bolmen step stool, it fits my narrow bathroom well, but might be too tall for an 18 month old. I was also considering the ikea bekvam step stool.
  • We love the Munchkin Folding Step Stool (Blue) for DS to use with the toilet.  It locks and will not collapse. In fact, we just keep it locked because to collapse it is not easy.  We tuck it between the toilet and tub.  It's not the tallest stool ever like you say, so we also use the collapsible one when necessary for the sink, and keep it in the vanity.  We've never had a problem, and DS is usually supervised using it anyway.

If you like the Elmo one, why not get it?  In a few years if she's still using it, you can always update it with some paint.
