Trying to Get Pregnant

How involved is your partner?

In the TTC process, how involved does your partner want to be?

I was really surprised with my husband.  I totally figured he would be the "tell me when we need to do it" and "tell me when we have a positive" kind of a guy, and that's it.

But he is super involved.  He wakes up with me almost every morning when I temp.  Asks me about my CM.  Reminds me when I get up to go pee to "pee on the ovulation thingy first!".  He wanted to come with me to my annual appointment to hear the dr answer some questions.  Etc…

I am happy he is so excited and involved, but it did really surprise me.

Re: How involved is your partner?

  • In the beginning H just wanted to know when to have sex and when we got pregnant. Well 8 months later he now asks about ovulation, my temps, and what part of the cycle we are in. He does not ask to go to the gyno with me or about CM, thank God! He has become more and more and more involved! He is now taking temp drops at the end of the cycle as hard as I do and we both drown our sads on CD 1 with a good drink and dip in the hot tub!

  • My husband was pretty bummed when our Dr told him he needed to stay out of the hot tub.  He tried to complain about it to me, and I just looked at him and asked him if he remembered the list of things I was going to have to avoid.  His response was "touché".

My SO isn't that involved. All he wants to know is when is my fw so the deed can get done.
  • H is not too involved but we're both happy with that. He doesn't want to know when I think I might be ovulating because it puts too much pressure on him. He doesn't know when I test but I do let him know when I get my period so he knows that we're out that cycle.

  • My hubs eyes glaze over every time I talk about TTC, but he'll do the BD when I say we need to...it would be nice if I could talk to him more about it, but he's more into the house renovations than anything else it seems
  • This is only our second cycle TTC but the first cycle he was into it and excited and would ask questions but then when our sex increased he started saying that I made it feel like a chore. I wouldn't schedule it or anything and I would approach it the same as normal but our frequency was increasing by a lot, 1 because obviously I wanted to get pregnant but 2 us having more sex increased my previously low sex drive. Now that we are in month 2 he was suprised I didn't get pregnant and I think he thinks of it more as a challenge now and when I was on my period he was asking when we could start doing it again and when I was expected to O. He told me last night that he is shocked on how hard it can be in general to get pregnant and asked how the hell do ppl get pregnant that were not planning it haha

  • I think DH is pretty involved.  In February when I went off my BCP, started reading, and charting, I asked him what he wanted to know.  He really didn't; however, if he saw me looking over my chart or entering data, he would ask what my chart said and look at it.  Little by little we have had conversations about what I am doing and tracking.  I only give him as much information as he asks about.  I think he would have died of boredom had I talked about all of it at once.

  • Mine knows all about temping because we've been doing it a while.  He's fairly involved for the same reason @lubire145's husband is - the unprotected sex aspect.  He wants to know when I've ovulated, or when my period is done because of all the sex.   We used condoms for years, and we're only in our 3rd cycle, so this is still very fun for him.  We talked last night about the fact that it might not be, and he said he can't imagine a day he wouldn't want to have sex.  We'll see.

  • He's pretty involved. Got DNA tests and goes to metabolic appts with me...he jokes about my temping, charting, etc and asks some questions. He knows what's up and he's a willing part of all the hoopla. Mostly though, he plays ball when I request...most recently he said "I'm not in the mood but I'll drill ya if I have to" Now that's romance.

  • H is in the "need to know" category. Talking about temping and CM would make anxious and he is a wuss about anything medical so I jsut keep it to myself. We decided to "let jesus take the wheel" in May and are still in the if it happens, it happens phase. If things prove chellenging for us, I will get him more involved. Until then, he just likes the sex!

Ha! My husband always wants it, but always claims that he's just "taking one for the team."
