Trouble TTC

IVF Question

My husband and I are looking into doing IVF. I am a little nevous pumping all of those hormones into my body. I have been trying to do some research. Does anyone know if there is a real increased risk to breast cancer,uterine/ovarian cancers? What is your take on this? Would like to get other ladies opinions. I am nervous as hell.

Re: IVF Question

  • I just did IVF, I'm doing FET in about a month. Honestly I didn't really look at the increased risk of cancer. I believe the med they stim you with doesn't really cause a problem because it's LH and FSH. I'd imagine the estrogen replacement that I'm using for FET isn't as great but I just made sure I had my mammogram up todate and Pap smears. Then again I'm 40 so I have to have a mammogram.
    Fucking bump!!!!

  • My doctor indicated to me there was no increased risk. You should discuss this with your RE at your consultation. Good luck!

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).

My husband was really concerned about this and asked our RE at our consult. She said there can be risk when you overstim and produce WAY too many eggs, so that is why the first IVF she usually does low dosages to see how the body responds. IVF is still fairly young, so it's hard to know for sure, but she said there wasn't too much risk.

I would talk to your RE if you are concerned and see what him/her says.

In my giant IVF binder they address this concern.  And if I read it correctly.. the cancer may be linked more with the cause of infertility - not the treatment.
