First GD , now being sent to MFM

Ok ladies, I have mentioned that I have GD and have been following the diet to the letter. I have also been checking my levels and my fasting ones are just too high. OB is putting me on glubride (sp?) and sending me to MFM.

Can any of you provide some of your own stories of dealing with MFM for GD?  I am not freaking out but I just want so first-hand accounts of how they oversee a GD patient.  I will call my MFM's office to discuss as soon as my ob's office calls me with the appointment information but I am feeling so impatient about it all!

I have no personal experience with a MFM and GD but just wanted to add that I am sorry that you are going through this. At least they are making sure you get the care you need to make sure you and your baby remain healthy during this pregnancy.

You can also try posting on the high risk board - a lot of Moms with GD post there as well.

I see the MFM once a month for growth scans right now. Soon I'll start going twice a month then eventually weekly for non stress tests and ultrasounds I believe. I fax them my BG numbers every week or bring them to my appointments. I'm still diet controlled so I cant speak as to anything they might do related to your medication.

I'm on glyburide. Make sure the first few nights you watch your lows and you need to take it with something slightly higher in carbs.

I also keep glucose tabs next to my bed for hypo periods. I had a 42 the other day but usually I don't go below 80

I have no experience with either but wanted to offer my support. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I hope all goes okay with the MFM. <<Hugs>>

Lurker here (yes, I'm due in October, and have been following the board since my BFP; I just haven't had the guts to post anything.  Plus, I mostly bump at work, so I feel better with less "evidence" of my unproductivity)...I had GD with my first and was put on a low dose of glyburide for my fasting numbers at around 34 weeks.  I wasn't sent to a MFM, but I had to start having weekly appointments with my OB at that time with an ultrasound at each appointment (silver lining!).  I took the glyburide when I ate dinner, and had no issues with it.  I found out Monday that I failed, again, but no crazy numbers so far. Good luck with everything, and I hope that you get to talk to them soon.     **creeps back into lurker land**

Yes, now I will see my OB, My endocrinologist (thyroid issues too!), and the MFM...seems like over kill but will be happy if the MFM will do u/s.  I have only had the standard two so that is a big silver lining.

MFM is wonderful... at least in my experience. They gave me so much personal attention. We never waited at the office and there was a 2 hour time slot just for us. I don't know your situation but I went once a month amd received a 4D ultrasound at every visit. The doctors and nurses just seem so much nicer and are extremely thorough which is comforting.

I also see an OB, Endo, and an MFM.  Just had my first appointment with the new MFM (I fired the old MFM due to several issues before getting the GD diagnosis).  The MFM will do growth checks every 3 weeks and then starting on week 32-34, do weekly checks to make sure that LO isn't growing too big and that the placenta continues to function as it should.  I also will start sending in my sugar numbers once a week for them to review and adjust my insulin as needed.
