Trouble TTC

OPK questions

So I have been using the Wondfo OPK's and I think we have been doing it wrong.
When I get the two dark lines we BD but I have reread the instructions online and it says to BD 24-48 hours after. I think my mistake was when I read it months ago I thought 24-48 hrs was 0-48 not 24-48... would there be a OPK out there that says BD now! or do I just need to wait from 0-24 and then BD 24-48?

We are still early in the treatment phase so I haven't been able to see the RE much to ask all these questions.

Would getting a clear blue smiley face test be good? or should I stick with the Wondfo? both?

Ok yes that helps. DH last SA came back all zeros... so we don't know if anything has changed and won't til next month when they get a new SA. That is why we were kind of withholding from BD too soon.

I keep imagining the egg rolling out of my ovaries and then bouncing its way down the sides of my uterus. Then on one bounce it cracks a little and then the next bounce it lands on the only sperm that is alive and then bam it works.

I don't know if I am just keeping up the positive thinking or if I played too much Katamari Domacy.

Everyone keeps telling me "It only takes one!" I just want to scream!!!!!! If it only takes one then way is "normal" like 100 million. My husband doesn't have a navy, its just Pi in a lonely boat.

I'm not sure about when to time sex, but I think when you get a positive opk ovulation usually occurs between 12-36 hours later (I could be wrong!). I'm sorry for your frustrations, I would maybe call your RE and ask them what they would recommend!

  • Hi there, my husband is also on hCG injections for low T! Just gave him the first one. I have to admit, it was kind of fun to shoot him in the butt after he gives me monthly shots for Crohn's. :)

You mentioned that only YH works with an RE - is it possible for you to get a work-up there too so the RE can have the whole picture? Or are you waiting for the results of the low T treatment to kick in? Waiting for sperm to grow is so boring, lol. :)

OPKs can indicate a range of things, simply depending on when throughout the day/night you started to surge, how long/strong your surge happens to be, when you test, and how concentrated your urine is.

If you test regularly, a first OPK+ indicates that the peak of your surge started sometime in the last 24 hours. Ovulation can occur anywhere from 12-36 hours after the peak of the surge. So that leaves some room for error, especially if your urine was diluted the previous day and it was almost positive and should have registered a positive.

So OPKs make it hard to time things perfectly, but over several cycles, you could keep track of your temperature rise in related to your OPKs (mine wasn't always the same, sometimes it came on the first OPK+ day, sometimes the day after) to give you a better idea.

And as far as your egg bouncing into the sperm at the bottom of your uterus - that's a fun image, but it actually takes the egg at least 3 days to move down the fallopian tube to the uterus (it's really tiny and a long journey aided only by cilia!). Since it has to be fertilized within 12 or 24 hours at the most (when it is no longer viable), that means fertilization will take place in the fallopian. That's why a ridiculous number of sperm are hoped for compared to one little egg - The cervix is a natural barrier, and if I remember correctly the RE said only 100,000 sperm out of 20 million usually make it through (they have to be excellent swimmers, and many are sacrificed on the way in the little cul-de-sacs of the cervix, and they also work together to create a current - and half might go up the wrong tube). With IUI, concentrating the sperm can provide numbers within the uterus that are much higher than with timed intercourse.

  • @bunnyberry that was so helpful!

I don't think I would get approved to go to an RE since I have not showed something worth investigating.

Once we get the sperm on board and nothing happens then I will start to worry.

From what I understand you are saying to HIO the day of the OPK+. I thought I was suppose to wait a day.

I wish there was some internal nod that can just say "ding! time to do it!" lol

  • I was benched two cycles ago and decided to fork over the big bucks for the clear blue easy ovulation digital strips since I was "saving" so much money from NOT doing fertility treatments, but to be honest I prefer the good old cheap ones instead. When I use the cheap ones I tend to test 2-3 times per day to make sure I don't miss the surge, but with the clear blue easy they were so damn expensive for just 7 I ran out before I got a positive using them.....so cheap is where it's at for me.

    Me: 33, DH: 32

    TTC: 2 years
    Fertility blood tests all normal
    Tilted uterus
    3 day ultrasound 17 follicles
    HSG: 11/13/13- tubes open
DH SA: SUPER sperm (145 million, 84% motility, 22% morphology)
All infection disease and immunity blood tests NORMAL

FIRST IUI May 2014: 100 mg Clomid days 5-9, third ultrasound CD 13 revealed four follicles 27, 24 and 20 and 13mm. Trigger shot May 28 with IUI May 29 and 30 (fingers crossed) - BFN started spotting 11DPO :(

IUI #2 B2B 6/23 and 6/24, three mature eggs and 130 million sperm! FX this is the month!  BFN 7/8

3rd cycle benched due to cysts - TI with OPK tests -  BFN

3rd mediated cycle: Clomid+Trigger+TI  (three follies left side, one on right as usual....what the hell right ovary get it together and produce some damn follicles!) 7DPO progesterone level 43 with NO suppositories YAY for a natural strong ovulation. Beta canceled started spotting 13DPO - Third time is not a CHARM! 14 day cycle WTF! Everything looks normal - RE wants to start injectables next cycle so this cycle I'm benched

Officially benched until March....but still plan on trying the baking soda douche due to my excessive and thick CM
