Ultrasound Help Please

Hi!  I had my confirmation appointment yesterday, and my OB performed an ultrasound.  Excited to say...I do have a little bun in the oven! :)  However, when the nurse came back with my ultrasound pic, she didn't seem very eager to help me read it (even though I asked her to).  This is our 1st and I really want to understand what I'm reading.  Can someone please help me?  Here's what it says in the top right corner of the pic:

  • Thanks ladies!  I have another appointment in a month, and I will be more upfront then.  I'll ask to speak with someone next time who will actually take the time to explain it to me.  Hopefully, there will be way more info then to go on.  Thanks again!
  • Like PP's have said, all of that info isn't related to your baby, it's just where the u/s was taken, Dr. name, date and time, and stuff for the computer so they know where to store the files.

Normally it'll also say your LMP (last menstural period). Ex: LMP: 6w2d (6 weeks 2 days), and what MHz (Megahertz) they use to be able to detect your uterus and baby. But, that's not really important.

  • All that stuff is just info about our ultrasound machines. The sonographer may not have much to tell you about the pic. At this stage if you are seeing an embryo at all its tiny and all they can say is "see this bright dot" thats your baby. They could also point out the yolk sac to you but they wouldnt send you home with a picture of it. The 18 week survey will be the ultrasound where they will hopefully explain more to you as they scan the babies organs and extremities.

  • @JacqueleenF‌ & @cafecreme‌ thank you! My OB did say there wasn't a fetal pole yet, so I guess it's too early to know much of anything else.
  • I'm an OB sonographer (ultrasound tech) and trust me, all that information means nothing for the patient. It is all the info about the settings of the machine for the sonographer, so don't waste your time asking cuz it's complicated. However congrats on baby and just enjoy that sweet pic of your little bean.!
