Trying to Get Pregnant

How many days does your opk stay positive?

Just interested in how it works for other women. Mines 2-3 days but I've read it's the first one that matters most and really no need to test further.

Re: How many days does your opk stay positive?

  • Mine would only be positive one day, and usually not the whole day.

  • I could only ever get one per day, if I was lucky enough to catch it. Which didn't happen often.

    Aww that would be frustrating.

I gave up on them.  Couldn't ever get them to be positive.

  • Thank you! I've read a lot of information to try to learn really if the first is the only important one.

Not necessarily true, really. You can ovulate 12-72 hours after your last positive test. Some people have a short surge, some longer. I've had ones as short as a day or two, and a cycle where I had six days of positives.

Some people are happy with getting one positive and having sex every other day (or every day for the ambitious/those without MFI). If that's how you want to do it, it's totally fine! Just keep in mind that you can get positives, not ovulate, and get positives again later and actually ovulate later.

    damn quote box fail.

This 100 times over. I get a positive around CD 13-15 every single cycle, but I don't actually ovulate until CD 23. I keep peein' on things and temping to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Okay thanks you! So I understand the need to keep doing it and it makes perfect sense! Can I ask what may be a dumb question? Well I'm gonna anyways! So when you do ovulate, how long FOR YOU girls is it after your first positive OPK (not the haha tricked you positives but the ones actually indicating upcoming ovulation)

Once I got like 4 positive OPKS in a row, two one day, two the next. Then the next month I got one positive, tested not long after, and it was negative, so way shorter. I have no explanation for this. I just use OPKs as one more thing to cross-reference for my chart, and I like peeing on stuff.

For me, usually 2 days after the first positive test. So with one day of positives, two days later. With two days of positives, one day after the last one, two days after the first. But it's happened once where I ovulated the day after my only positive. So, it's not a perfect system at all.

  • 3 days for me
  • I missed the surge this month, haven't had much success yet with OPKs aside from darkening lines, then they're gone!

  • I generally have 2 days of positives, but it's really only 24 hours.  I'll get a + on my evening test one day and morning test the next day, then it's - again by evening of the second day.
  • I've only used them one cycle. But in my experience, the line slowly darkened over like three days. On the third day it was so super close to being positive but was just a tiny shade lighter than the control line. The next day was obviously positive and then the following day was negative. I tested for the next like three days and all were negative. So technically I only had one positive and temping confirmed that I ovulated the very next day.

  • I've just started using OPKs this month...I started on CD12 and in the a.m. and p.m. on CD15 I had very dark lines, but not quite as dark as control. Then they lightened the following day. My temp shifts (depending on today) may show a Monday O date..if so, then mine were very dark (but not quite like control) the day before I O'd. We'll see how it goes...I keep POAS to check and see if I re-surge...nothing yet.

  • 6 days. I ovulate around 3rd or 4th day of positive opks. Since they don't particularly help much for me I stopped using them.
  • 2-3 days of positives and then I usually ovulate on the day of my last positive test or the day after.

  • I have a CM question. Does EWCM have to be clear? I had some very stretchy CM (stretched several inches) but it wasn't clear. Sometimes I have such a hard time deciphering any CM that isn't very obvious EWCM.
