We are up! DD went 4 hours between feedings but then she wakes up and fights my breast like crazy! She'll latch on and suck for a second and then Falls off, it takes a good 5 minutes to get her gojng and then she falls asleep after 6 minutes. Frustrating!

What's up guys? Happy Friday! I'm going to be the dramatic, first time mom who calls the pediatrician for the 2nd time this week as soon as they open tomorrow. Those poor bastards are getting their first dose of my crazy.
Hi, I'm the dramatic STM who went in to the pediatrician twice this week. Nothing's wrong with letting them see your crazy early on!

What's going on? Everything ok?

We are up for our morning feeding. I'm so confused about infant clothes sizes. DD was born at 8#7oz (lost a bit, but has been gaining back) - but not super tiny for a nb. DH dressed her in a Gerber gown for pjs and she is swimming in them. I think it said it was for ages 0-6 mos. I woke her up for her feeding and she had it all bunched up around her torso and one arm was pulled inside the gown! Obviously not for a nb. Guess we will be retiring this one for a while.

I'm a third time mom and probably calling today for the second time in a week too. There's no shame in paranoid calls to the pedi

Gerber is the worst. Just set fire to them all now.

Right now the hardest part is that I'm over my nipples hurting from BF'ing. I just want a break! I've tried every latch technique I can on my left side and I'm pretty sure it had to do with having short nipples. She latches great it just hurts and won't stop. I'm not looking forward to having to call the LC's because I didn't really click with them in the hospital and one just wasn't helpful at all when I was there and having latch problems. And I guess I have to see if my insurance will cover a visit....I seriously just want to try to work it out myself but I'm almost at a loss. :-/
Try nipple shields. Liam beat me up after breast feeding the first few rounds (I feel your pain on the flat nipple issue) and the lc at the hospital gave me one to try. I would not be able to breast feed without it. I picked up extras at target, medela brand.
Good luck and hang in there! I hear it eventually gets better :-)

I never had any luck with gowns. Gerber sizing is tiny, but I hated the gowns at any size.

I'm fairly certain that 'newborn parent care' is part of a pedi's job description. Ours told us "I don't need to see you until the two week appt, so I'll talk to you when you call with your questions in the meantime".
Haha. That's awesome @ksspiff. Thanks for all the concern guys! I was in too much of a coma to bump during the 5am feeding. DS has a rash on his face. We've introduced a bunch of new stuff this week so I'm trying to see what I should change.
He went from 80% formula to 100% formula, we started prescription Zantac for reflux, gripe water for gas and poly vi sol with iron vitamins.
It's not baby acne (because he already had that) but it's not a super angry rash either. I stopped poly vi sol and gripe water last night and I want to see if I should think about changing his formula. He's on enfamil Enfacare 22cal formula to fatten him up but it is notorious for giving painful gas.
I'll let you know the result and snap a pic of the rash for reference. I was on the google monster and couldn't find anything helpful about allergic reactions to any of the products we are using.
I'm up! Usually I "sleep" while nursing but tonight I can't. DH and DS are now both sleeping soundly beside me. Ugh. Anyway going off the original question, my RCS was amazing. I was joking with the Dr and nurses during and I even had the audacity to tell them it was relaxing. It was though. That spinal block is the best thing ever and I could have gone to sleep so easily. Recovery has been a breeze. Minimal bleeding and only a few days of pain meds. The WORST part about this whole process is trying to poop. I wasn't taking the stool softeners as much as I should have and dear God it was horrific. I literally had to Lamaze breathe 3 days in a row. I can't even imagine what it would be like if I had stitches on my hoohah too. It's all better now but that was the worst part. Moral of the story is, do not forget the softeners!
Hey ladies. I am up. My LO was just up and eating for the first time tonight. That would be great if she was not 3 days old. And it is impossible to wake her up. No matter what we do if she is not awake enough to eat she will just fall asleep as soon as she latches on . She is tiny to begin with.any advice would be welcome.
I have a lazy eater too! It's been so hard spending an hour to an hour and a half trying to keep him awake enough to eat, then having to wake him up again an hour and a half later to try the whole process again!!
I was told the same thing as @reils500 to just keep poking and prodding until he has actively been sucking/swallowing for 30 min. Also feed naked, do the diaper change during the feeding, switch between breast frequently, and massage the breast while she is on the breast to push milk into the mouth. Also you can remove her when she is asleep and rock her from front to back (like tip her face first and then back to her back) to mess with the equilibrium which can make them more alert.
I have been doing all this and for individual reasons needing to use a nipple shield to help him be better organized with his sucking. We also supplement with finger feedings. It gets better as they get older and naturally become more awake. We are just over a week old and having more success, but I feel your pain! Good luck!
I think so. TMI, but I had bloody show all day today, and contractions since about 5. I think I'm in for a long labor since I really didn't get any sleep.
@litera, I just sent you a PM We're laboring at home until 7-ish cm, but I just woke DH to inform him, and we'll probably be calling the Doulas soon. I'm handling them well so far. I don't want to call and have them come and watch me like a pot waiting to boil, but I don't want DH to deliver this little guy by himself either.
Gotta love 3 am blow-outs! Esp when its time for them to eat!
I'd say it was 50/50 with birth. I had back labor and normal contractions so that mentally drained me (never knowing which it would be.) By the time we got to the hospital I was 6cm. Had my epidural in by 7cm (easiest thing ever.) Labor was more tiring than it was painful. The worst part was I had pushed her head halfway out at the end of a contraction so I had to wait 15-30 seconds (in excruciating pain) until I could finish pushing her out.
Out of the entire process the thing that surprised me the most has been recovery. I had two TINY stitches and could have probably gone home that same day lol.
I'm up. AGAIN. little dude cluster fed from 6pm - 1 am. I was hopeful that he was stocking up to give me a nice stretch of sleep. Nope, not even close.
Extra tired at this check in! PToday I hate BF'ing. I don't know why, I just do. It's not really going bad, I just am having a day where I hate being the one that is reliable for feeding DD. Yesterday I was fine, so I'm not sure if this is a phase I will get over or what. I don't really want to formula feed, I just feel like it would be so much easier on me right now and that DH could help. Maybe this is my first dose of the hormones getting to me?
@suzelizabeth I'm hoping maybe after some more sleep I feel a little better! We're at 2 1/2 weeks, so I'm wondering if I'm just having an off day. Hoping that's the case because I doubt I can do too many days of feeling like this before switching.
Checking in. Hey - how long does the nipple pain last? When dd latches it hurts so bad and then is mildly to moderately painful after. I'm not sure if it is normal or she has a bad latch. We are going on about 3 weeks. I did not bf ds1 so this is all new to me.
I remember having a break down when DS was about a month old from the pain...but I think it got better not too long after. Little Miss has a painful latch too, but I think it's already getting better. "They" say if it hurts, you're not doing it right but I don 't believe that. I think some of us are just more sensitive than others.

This. I've had varying amounts/lengths of nipple pain with all three of mine. T took upwards of 6 weeks with DS1 to be comfortable, a couple of weeks woj DS2, and it's just now getting bearable when DD latches now at 10 days. I think it all has to do with how strong a baby's latch is + how sensitive the mom's nipples are. LCs have assured me that my kids latch just fine, but it's always been painful for me in the newborn stage.

"Off" days are common for me. I find that days that the latch is more painful or baby is extra hungry/fussy are harder but then they're usually followed by a few days of "I love nursing/it's the best thing ever" feelings.
5am feeding here! I feel bad because it was supposed to be a 4am feeding, but my alarm didn't go off - so I woke up to a very angry baby! Today my DH goes back to work after a nice week at home as a little family and I am really upset about it. It was an amazing week that we will never get to experience again. We really had a routine down and were enjoying getting to know our DD together. I know he is going to have a hard time with it as well. I have a few people stoping by to visit throughout the week so I shouldn't get lonely, but wow am I going to miss DH while he's as work!
LO is on a feeding frenzy tonight. We also had a poop diaper that he decided wasn't enough so I held his little feet in the air mopping up MORE poop as it flowed out for about 10 minutes straight.
LO has been feeding practically all night. I thought we were about done with this growth spurt but apparently not. He nursed almost straight from 6pm - 12:30am and then I desperately needed a break so DH gave him a bottle of formula. Then I got up with him again at 3 and he hasn't let me go back to bed yet now at 5. I really hope this constant feeding thing is temporary, he was doing so much better than this before!
So I got up for Alexander's 2am feed and he ate his whole bottle. He was still wiiiide awake and eating his fingers so I gave him some more formula. 30 mins later we were both covered in that formula -_- The days of him actually going back to sleep after 2am feeding are few and far between.
I still have an inside baby (RCS is one week from today!!)...but I'm wide awake with you ladies thanks to acid reflux. I cannot WAIT to have this symptom gone. If I have to be awake, I'd rather have my squish to keep me company
Apparently, I completely failed at my 2am feeding last night.
I nursed for 36 minutes, however, according to DH she was up within an hour, and I neglected to clean up a blow out (I changed the diaper, but didn't realize it was all over her clothes, swaddle and legs.
Oops!
he cleaned her up and gave her some expressed milk I had in the fridge.
Meanwhile, I'm snoring away.

@ghostof5letters Focker out!!! Sometimes we just want handle it. It's like you got shot with a tranquilizer gun. You were down for the count. Lol!!
I know it's not nighttime anymore but can I just say how much I enjoy waking up completely drenched in sweat and not changing becuase I'm a gross indivual who goes back to sleep in her sweat drenched clothes after a feeding. Winning!
Is anyone else keeping LO upright after feeding for up to 15-20 minutes? I have an irrational fear of her spitting up and choking while I'm sleeping if I don't do this after a feeding
