TTC After a Loss

Ectopic pregnancy.

Hi,

I'm recovering from an ectopic pregnancy. Got my surgery on july 4th (2 am)...

I was wondering, for the people who had or knows someone who had an ectopic pregnancy, how long did it take to finally have an healthy baby in the uterus? Did you/they had another ectopic pregnancy after the first one?

I have a lot of worries, I don't want to go throught this again.

I hope I'm at the right place for this question :)

I'm sorry for your loss and welcome.

I think first, you'll find the majority of the women here have yet to have successful pregnancies and second, everyones bodies heal differently and are different, so you may not find any two situations that are the same. As far as successes after an ectopic, PGaL may be a better place for your question.

If you haven't already you should check out the sticky at the top of the board and the blog link inside it. There is tons of helpful info there.

Again, welcome. I hope you find this board helpful and supportive :)

    Edit: spelling
  • Thank you girls :)

I never thought it could be so worrying to try to have a baby!
  • It's scary. It really is. Check over on PgAL, there are lots of ladies who have had etopics and are doing well.

I'm sorry for your loss. I want to echo the other gals and urge you to check out our blog. It's really helpful and full of great info.

  • Welcome and I'm sorry for your loss. The anxiety that comes with trying for a baby following a loss can be particularly challenging. I can't offer you ectopic advice as I haven't had one, but I second the PP who said to check in over at PGAL. There are a lot of ladies there who have managed to go on to get pregnant following their ectopics.

Please consider staying on here, this is a great group of ladies and we support each other incredibly well. There's a blog link at the top of the page that has some great pointers.

  • Yes both tubes are still there. But one has a scar on it now...

Thank you all for that overwhelming welcome :)
  • She told me that she wants the hcg to drop to 0. So blood test every week to see it drop. I hope I could TTC at the end of August /beginning of September :)
  • Welcome. I am sorry for your loss. I echo what others have said as well.

I had an ectopic and lost my right tube. Make sure you talk to your doctor about when she wants you to TTC. Even if your levels go back down to zero soon, most doctors recommend waiting two or so cycles before you TTC. I had to wait three cycles before I could TTC after my surgery. I would push for an HSG before you TTC again. This will let you know if you both tubes are good working order. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

  • I don't have any experience with an ectopic, but wanted to welcome you to the board! Definitely follow the advice of your OB or RE as they will be able to guide you best on when your body is ready to TTC again. The advice from megrae12 of a HSG is excellent advice and could provide you with some reassurance.

  • I had an ectopic last May/June that resulted in surgery as well. My doctor told me that I have a 15% higher risk of another ectopic after having one. The important thing is to get your betas monitored very closely once you're pregnant again. Unfortunately, we've been TTC again for a year with no luck, so I don't have a success story to tell.

I'm sorry for your loss, but welcome to the board. Best of luck to you.

  • Lurker here ***WARNING*** Children mentioned as well as miscarriage. I'm normally on PAL & debating on if I will TTC again after my loss a little over 3 weeks ago.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I had an ectopic back in October 2010 and lost my right tube. I have since had my 2 sons, one in 2011 and the other in 2013. I just had a miscarriage a little over 3 weeks ago. I had perfect ultrasounds at 4 and 6 weeks (that one with a heartbeat) showing the baby in the right place and growing right on track, but I sadly lost this baby at 9 weeks.

Please take care of yourself. A ruptured ectopic hurts worse and is more painful to recover from than childbirth. Your body also goes through a lot of changes.

Anytime you do get pregnant again you need a doctor who will both draw betas every other day until your HCG hits 1200-1500 and will allow you to have an ultrasound in your 4th week to make sure it's not another ectopic. You will always have a 15% chance of a repeat ectopic. Your chances of success depend on the condition of your remaining tube, as well as the luck of the draw of what side you will ovulate on. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
