Breastfeeding

Mostly bf 2 month old suddenly refuses bottle

Anyone else experience this? She was taking one bottle of breast milk per day from about 3 weeks up until about a week ago. Now she is rejecting the bottle. She gets angry and cries.
We have tried other people giving it while I'm not home, different nipples, different bottles. I am hoping it is just a phase. Has any one else been through this? Is there anything else I can do? TIA for any and all suggestions!

Re: Mostly bf 2 month old suddenly refuses bottle

  • My baby did this, we tried different bottles like you said. We just tried at the same time everyday until it worked. Sorry I have no wisdom.

  • Having the same issue. I tried every single bottle until I found one she would tolerate. Had her dad give her one once a day until last week (the week before starting daycare) gave her a bottle a couple times a day now at daycare she is having a terrible time taking it.

Sorry I am no.help. just know your not alone! She would only take one type of bottle
But now thats she is even having trouble with that I sent a diff brand today to see if that is any better.

    Good luck mama!

  • Have you played with the temperature? Warmer milk seemed to help with us. Good luck!

We had the same problem... LO took a bottle with no issues until 11.5 weeks.  We've tried different bottles, having me leave for a few hours, playing with the temp, trying to transition from a spoon to sippy cup to bottle, nothings worked.  (Sorry if I'm getting you down!)  Pedi said that when I have to return to work, he will take a bottle... his sense of survival will kick in.  Until then, we just keep trying everyday.  GL... hope it works out for you!
  • We had a very similar issue. In the end - Lansinoh mOmma Natural Wave worked for him. The milk had to be a perfect temp and the nipple had to be warmed just before you put it in his mouth.

Also, after nothing was working, we gave him a bottle in his high chair. Now he will take a bottle from anyone/ anywhere. Thankfully I am off for the summer and only do bottles when I'm away from him.

    Hope you're making progress!

mmy 10 week old has been refusing bottles since 4 weeks old.  we had a good 2 weeks where she would drink 1-2 bottles per day, but it would take a lot of time- 1-2 hrs. for whatever reason she will drink bottles for my mom. my mom and mil are coming over today to see if my mom can teach mil to give bottle. i called my boss yesterday and told her that if my baby goes more than 6 hrs without eating my husband will be driving her to my work so i can breast feed her .  my boss was very supportive.  I will be going back to work in 2.5 weeks and work 12 hour shifts.  The pediatrician tells me it is okay to let the baby go all day without a bottle and then nurse all night. My boss and I both agree that that is ridiculous.  After 6 weeks of  spending hours daily trying to force bottles down her throat while she cries, driving her to work seems like the easier option.  Hope you have a better experience than I have!

  • We had a very similar problem when LO was about 7 weeks - right before he was meant to start daycare.  I just kept trying every day once a day, and I had no luck before he went to daycare at 8 weeks.  They were able to work magic there.  I didn't change bottles or nipples or anything.

It took months for LO to actually take a bottle from me, even after he was taking them well at daycare.

So no real help, but like PPs have said, just keep trying!
