Babies on the Brain

Extended Sleep (7-8 hours / night)

I have a 11 week old LO and she is sleeping 7-8 hrs/night... is this normal? I keep being told babies don't sleep that long until 6+ months.. should I be worried? She's in a set eating schedule and cluster feeds right before bed... could that be why she is sleeping so long at night? She is put to bed at 10pm and doesn't wake up until 5:30/6pm.

Re: Extended Sleep (7-8 hours / night)

  • I did speak with the pedi about it.. she said its normal and to be happy with it but for some reason it just doesn't sit well with me.. She is in the 8 % with her growth.. She's currently 10 lbs (11 weeks) and was born at 7 lbs, 3 oz... she should weigh closer to 11 lbs by now.. Doc didn't seem worried.. she said my LO is lean but long therefore not really concerning her too much.. she's hit all her milestones so far.. I just wanted to know if others had similar things happen...

  • By 4 days old, my baby was sleeping 6 hours per night. By month 2, she was sleeping 8. If your Dr. isn't worried, I'd count your blessings. Many moms aren't as lucky. :)

  • DS was sleeping from 9pm-6 am by week 8. As others have said, if your pedi isn't concerned, you shouldn't be. Are you EBF? DS was on the smaller side as well at that age but our pedi said that's not uncommon for EBF kids. He packed it on later.
  • My DS started sttn at 8 weeks & has done so ever since then!

  • I'm just jealous. At almost 7 months old, LO is still waking up usually 3 times per night......if I was getting 6 hrs of uninterrupted sleep, I would be running laps around the house and certainly not questioning it!
  • If we are going to brag, my DD was sleeping that stretch at 5 weeks old.  By 11 weeks she was sleeping 12 hours.  It's uncommon, but normal.

Also, stop fishing for compliments.  It's not a way to win friends.

  • 8th percentile is fine. It's not a test where 100 is the best.

  • I have an 8 and a half month old son, we have NEVER sttn but now that we are in full blown teething hell, for the past week my son has been up every 45 minutes all night long and the sleep he does get is ONLY when he is nursing.  Consider yourself incredibly fortunate and enjoy it!!!  I don't know what sleep is anymore lol
  • My son will be 1 in two days. He has never sttn :((

  • Enjoy it! Does she take naps during the day? A 7-8 stretch is great but she still needs more sleep in a day... a lot more! In my opinion though, 10 is a pretty late bedtime.
