Rash

LO got a nasty cold on Friday and still has a really runny nose. The skin on her face is really bad as a result. But yesterday she started to get what I believe to be hives all over her body.. She doesn't have a fever and doesn't seemed bothered by them. She hasn't eaten anything new. It has been quite warm here but she's dressed appropriate for the temperature. Anybody else's Lo get a rash like this when sick, how long did it stick around for?

Re: Rash

  • DD1 had hives last year but they didn't look like that. Hers were different size welts that traveled around her body for 24 hrs. The dr couldn't pinpoint the cause but it said it was likely viral and I gave her one dose of Benadryl just in case. Sometimes viruses come out in rash form after a sickness but I would still call the pedi to be sure.

  • Yeah after looking at a few pictures of viral rashes it looks the same as what she has going on. I'll keep an eye on it and take her in if it gets worse or doesn't improve.
  • When I brought DD to the pedi Monday (for what I thought was heat rash but was HFMD), he said with most rashes, if you press on it with your finger and it fades to skin tone then returns, it's viral. If you press on it and it stays pink, it's more likely a skin issue such as heat rash. This seems a little vague to me, but I'd thought I'd pass it along! That rash does look similar to the HFM rash my DD had (she didn't have any visible sores on hands, feet, or mouth, but pedi could see them at the back if her throat and they appeared on the roof of her mouth later). So maybe something to rule out.
