Working Moms

PT - what schedule would you ask for?

I am getting ready to go back to work after baby #2. First kiddo is 9 so we also have to deal with camp and school drop off and pick up, homework, and sports. My DH is basically gone from 6a - 7p. We have hired a nanny who is pretty flexible on days/hours. She can't work Fridays however.

I was working M/W/Th, about 8:30-4:30, which meant I was gone from 7:30-5:15. But now DS will have soccer practice M/Th so that won't work anymore.

My boss said he will work with me so I am trying to figure out what would be best. I am thinking maybe two shorter days in the office and two shorter days at home, so I am still at 24 hours but split into 4 days. And my days in the office I'll only be gone 7:30-3:30. Or I could cut my hours back to 20 and still work three days, or something else. I don't think I want to work three days in a row though - I'd like to have a midweek break with DD and DS.

So anyway what do you think would be ideal?

if you can afford to go to 20 hours, that sounds like it would be a better fit for you. 5 hour days M/T/W/Thu? or three 7 hour days?

I am thinking that may be the way to go, with every other day in the office. So M/W in office and then Tu/Th at home.

  • Could you do a 12 hr shift on Tuesday and Wednesday?

Or, I would work from home on Monday and Thursday and go into the office Tuesday and Wednesday.  You could do 8 hours in the office and 4 at home.
  • @Virgo17‌ - that would leave my kids with neither parent home for 14 hrs. That won't work for us.
