**Weekly GD check-in 7/9**

Hehe...it just occurred to me that random lurkers probably wonder what our "god damn" weekly check in is all about ;)

Anywho...just because I'm free of this beast doesn't mean I can't start and help with the check in.

How was your previous week/how's it going?
Vents/celebrations?
Questions?
Suggestions?

Re: **Weekly GD check-in 7/9**

  • My numbers have been pretty good, although i feel as though i am not eating as much. Which is probably normal at this point.

Seriously just a waiting game right now, and hoping my supplies make it to the end cause i don't want to have to pay 40+ for more strips/lancets that i will only need a couple of. Although my dad uses the same ones so at least i know they won't go to waste if it happens.

I got bored last night and baked a cake, i can't even really eat any of it (white cake with homemade buttercream frosting) and it's taunting me. Why did i do that? Lol.

I cannot wait to join all you ladies on the other side of all this!

  • I've been on the "other side" in the hosp the past couple of days...I'm sitting here critiquing every meal- hosp food is SOOO bad! not in quality (though I miss my cooking;), but in all the sugar and processed foods.

Happy bday @cn2009! stay strong ladies, it'll all be over soon!!

I'm curious how many of you are planning on keeping up some of the dietary/life style changes you made? I totally am going to incorporate things into life- portion size/ more attention to meal spacing, better eating, more exercise.

  • I forgot to mention in last weeks thread that I too was nearly out of test strips right at the end. I called the nurse somewhat panicky to get a refill on Monday even though I was going in for induction Wed night. I'd been faithfully testing for over 5 months and didn't want to not have the last couple day's numbers. Plus this way I'll have some supplies for if I want to randomly test in the future (until they expire I guess).

@TurtleMonsters‌, I'm kind of a perpetual dieter...I was doing WW before I got pregnant with DS. I'd lost 30 before him and only gained 22 while pregnant (my goal was to not gain more than I'd lost). I rejoined after his birth, but was not a magical unicorn who lost a ton of weight while breast feeding. I joined a gym though, last May, that has great child care and classes so I kept that up this whole pregnancy. Unfortunately, DD can't go to the childcare till she is 6mos. I plan to walk/jog and do at home stuff till I can get back to the gym. I'll also either do WW or my myfitnesspal or something to try to start getting to my ultimate weight goal, while keeping the reality in mind that I mind not be able to truly lose it all until I'm done nursing. I have to keep the principals of the GD diet in my life though as I have a heavy history of Type 2 in my family and it feels like an inevitable brick in my future.

  • My numbers have been very good - in fact, since I get full so fast, they're a bit lower than they had been, since my portions are tiny. I'm also starving most of the time. I told my OB that today, and he said to not worry about it, and if I miss a test here and there not to worry - he saw enough of my good numbers to not worry about me.

I'm definitely going to enjoy a week or two of not thinking about my diet at all, but both DH and I are going to go on a diet after things settle a bit; I'll say that the GD diet has definitely helped me feel prepared for that. Also, it curbed my weight gain so I don't have a crazy amount to lose after the wee one arrives. Here's hoping. :)

@TurtleMonsters, I plan on following the pre-diabetic diet. It's definitely more flexible than our current diet and I hope it helps keep from getting type II. Has your husband brought you anything special to the hospital to eat or are you waiting until you're out of there?
Waiting until we're home:)  I've been pregaming in the hospital, taking ice cream whenever it's offered, stealing M and M's from what Dh has claimed as HIS complimentary hospital snack basket. I was thinking of controlled indulging until July 31- which is also our anniversary, to make for a good finite start. I really want to focus on whole foods/home made stuff, and limit pure sugar. Sugar is really addicting, and if I can just get it through healthy carbs, I'd be content. My family too has tpe 2 diabetes, and other body inflammation issue (heart disease etc), and I already have inflammation from allergy/intolerances. I'm kind of competitive with myself to feel as good as I possibly can with what I put in my body. I can't believe I've become one of these "my body is my temple" ppl;)

  • I caved in today and filled another month of strips/lancets, I was sooo hoping that I would have my little one by now, but with my due date Monday, he should be here any day now! I wish I was able to do a partial month, it seems like such a waste...

  • My husband has really bad inflammation and joint problems. When he started limiting sugar (sweets, simple carbs, and beer) it made a huge difference. He's also gluten sensitive so cutting that out helped a lot. His joints don't crack and ache all the time anymore which is awesome and his IBS symptoms have practically disappeared. It's kind of amazing what food does to our bodies so I can understand the whole "my body is a temple" thing haha.
YES!!! ME 2! Probably repeating my self, but I took out histamines that created obvious symptoms, and things that release them, some of which is similar to your dh's list , and joint pain was so much better. IBS stuff is better too. anxiety/depression/migraines I have should respond to them as well- they all are inflammatory related, all these seemingly differnt end conditions seem to have very similiar food causes. Should be interesting what they find on all of this as specialists research more. I love that I can  control it some with food rather then throwing meds at it. unfortunately too many docs write this stuff off at this point (I was told it was stress, I couldn’t possibly feel like I did -wrf!! So I often feel like a crazy lady talking to ppl about it all;) I've been having an interesting time talking to L&D ppl about my experiences.

  • Thanks to GD (and probably the big poop I just had) I am now at my pre-pregnancy weight.

I should start tracking my weight gain now. Perhaps I'll go have some dessert.

  • I'm almost there too @ksspiff‌! Now to just make sure I don't start gaining any while enjoying some treats ;)

    Good luck @ZeroZeroOne‌!
