Maternity Leave.

I know it's a ways off since little baby isn't due until the end of October/beginning of November, but with my "new" job position I am allowed to take 90 days of paid maternity (THANK YOU, UNION!).  I can't wait to be able to bond, especially since after Mak was born I only had just over a week off (I saved up all my vacation days and used them) and was really bummed that I couldn't stay wth her longer, or help my wife who had to have a C-section.  So, even though I'm excited, and logistically know that I'll be busy with adjusting to a second child, watching both of them, etc. ... I still have this nagging thought of "what am I going to do for 3 months??"  Since I started working at 17 I've never had that much time off/between jobs.  I also am that person who doesn't want to burden others by taking time off (though I am getting over that since my boss already has a plan in place for when I will be gone).

Can anyone relate?  Will I even be able to enjoy it with a newborn and a yearling?

  • Oh, I wouldn't worry about it! I was off for 11 weeks and didn't have two to care for, and it was fine.  Rest, relax, play, sleep, don't sleep, feed, bond, etc. Once you can get out and about with the baby, enjoy the time and visit the museum, zoo, park, etc. If you really end up bored or with time on your hands, get those things done that you always have on the to-do list -- reorganizing that closet, send out the birth announcements, binge watch that series on Netflix, etc.
