Breastfeeding

Intro & Supply Question

Hi. I read this board all the time. So much good advice! I'm hoping y'all might have some ideas about my situation. LO is almost 6 weeks old. I have been supplementing with formula since she was born. Now, the amount of formula supplementation varies but usually ranges between an ounce to two ounces total a day. If we're out, she will get about 4 ounces of formula that day because I haven't gotten NIP down yet so I'll give her on the go formula. I'm somewhat happy because in the early days, I had to supplement 4 ounces every day so we're going in the right direction. What I can't figure out is why I seem to run out of milk at the same time every day. Right now it's about 7pm every day. I breast feed her before supplementing & only supplement because she's not getting enough. She just stays hungry & I feel empty. I know she likes to cluster feed around that time to get ready for bed but I don't know why I haven't adjusted & haven't started making more at that time of the day. It's not the biggest deal in the world but I would like to get to EBF. Any ideas? I'm sorry this is so long! I appreciate any ideas & advice.

Ditto what PP said.  We never truly run out of milk.  It may feel that way at night if you've been nursing all day.  It does help to nurse her when she's cluster feeding because that'll help you build the supply she needs.  I know I've seen moms say it took 6 weeks for their bodies to adjust but my supply didn't become more regular until 8 weeks or more.  Now, I feel "empty" most of the time but I know that my LO is getting enough.  Great start and good luck!
