@mermaidsmagic You can set up a pretend restaurant or store. Let her color menus and signs etc. Or get some large cardboard boxes for her to decorate and then play in.
Flowers for Algernon was one of the better books we were assigned for summer reading. I remember skipping O Pioneers and winging it. DD had to read The Princess Bride a few years ago for summer reading. Not fair!

We did, however, get L a pet on the boardwalk tonight.
A pet cylinder. I asked him if he wanted a pet and he said yes, so I asked him what kind of pet he wanted. He said "a pet cylinder." So, he was going on and on about his pet cylinder, and we ended up getting him a cheap ass slinky for 20 tickets we won playing skee ball.
